    • So you don't think walking into a cinema and shooting a dozen people dead might be a bit of a hint that he's probably mentally unstable?

Any idiot who would buy a person like this murderer's acting should not be involved in the decision making process for gun ownership applicants.

I assumed you meant he was acting now, did you mean when he bought the guns?

            • They don't interview them, do they? I think you get interviewed for concealed carry permits but not just to buy a gun.

An urban 24-year old buying 6,000 rounds of ammunition is a pretty big ****ing hint.

Foresight can be 20/20 if you open your eyes.

                        Well, I'm screwed then.

If I die in a mass shooting living in United States of Somalia it will be your fault.

No it isn't. Like I said, bulk purchases of ammo aren't particularly special.

Do you think he even needed that much ammo? He maybe used 100, 200 rounds at most? I doubt it was even that many. Ammo prices are very unstable, people tend to buy a whole lot when it's cheap and in bulk so they get discounts.

                          • 6,000 rounds of non-rimfire rifle ammo would be very expensive unless you got cheapo **** [note 1]. I'd say mid-to-low end varmint ammo is about $1 a round for .223 Remington. On the other hand, 6,000 rounds of things like 9mm or .22LR would be very easy to buy in such large quantities. I buy .22LR ammo in thousands of rounds at a time. 6,000 of Remington jacketed hollow point .22s would be about $250.

Also, I've never seen ammo prices to be particularly unstable.

[1] that's probably why his rifle jammed

                            • And if he was shooting .22LR, that's even more evidence that the perfectly-legal-during-the-assault-weapon-ban shotgun and handgun were far more dangerous than his semi-auto rifle that wound up jamming, anyway.

                              • The thing about the assault weapon ban is, even if it did impact massacres like this, they make up a very small component of overall crime. On the other hand, thanks to the assault weapons ban, manufacturers suddenly became interested in producing inexpensive, small, and easily concealable handguns because they were limited to 10-round magazines. That was, of course, also driven by the legalization of concealed carry through most of the country in the '90s. Those guns are the type you find most often at crime scenes.

Not that I think it's bad that manufacturers are producing more guns like that now.
