  • We don't need them. If they're federal government, they can just stay home, for all the good that they do.

Yeah. Not that the NRA is a biased source or anything.

          • From the CBC
Three guns were reported to have been used by the man accused of killing 12 people and injuring almost 60 others at a screening of The Dark Knight last Friday: a Smith & Wesson AR-15 rifle, a 12-gauge Remington 870 shotgun and a .40-calibre Glock handgun. Police say the suspect, James Holmes, bought the firearms legally in the last six months. He also bought thousands of rounds of ammunition.

All of those guns are available for purchase in Canada — for those who have the appropriate licences and permits.

"None of those firearms are particularly unique or special," said Tony Bernardo, executive director of the Canadian Shooting Sports Association.

To get one of them in Canada, however, there are more laws to follow and requirements to meet than in the United States, he said.

"For all kinds of firearms, it's more tightly controlled in Canada," said Bernardo.

To buy and possess a gun in Canada, a licence has to be acquired no matter what kind of gun it is. But the type of firearm will dictate the type of licence, and other restrictions such as transportation and storage rules.
I find it amusing that the executive director of the Canadian Shooting Sports Association shares the name of one of Canada's most infamous killers.

            • I visited a buddy last weekend at his vacation cottage out in the sticks. His son was there with a buddy. They went to the range to target shoot. When they got back we were watching the shooting news and we asked how many rounds they shot off that day. They said 300-400. He said he kept 2 to 3 thousand rounds for each gun he owned on hand because it was much cheaper to buy in bulk, so there's no way the US has a enough man power to check out everyone buying bulk ammo on line.

Wasn't it because outside of the machine the power source supposedly became unstable after a period of months? Weren't Bane preparing to leave the city on the day it was supposed to go off, but Batman interrupted their departutre?

Bane and his boys just wanted to enjoy being top dogs for as long as they could.

                • Saw a news report yesterday on the uninsured victims. Some of them face $1M+ medical bills when all is said and done.

This is why people without insurance in the US (who have the ability to obtain it) are idiots. Right Ben?

Seriously, I would just love if one of Ben's pupils shot him one day because he was dissatisfied with the way he was being 'taught' (I use that word very loosely in Ben's case!). Nothing life-threatening, just nicely expensive in medical bill terms...

That would serve him right on so many levels I'm sure that God will agree with me and hear my prayers.
Is it me, or is MOBIUS a horrible person?

I'm assuming that you intended to say 'news of the shooting', or have thing degraded so far in America that you have the 'shooting news' segment between 'sports' and 'weather'?

Why? His mission is to destroy Gotham. Bane and his puppet go to great lengths to explain how badly they want to destroy the city and how much it would get them off. And yet they wait months to...give a bunch of homeless Gothamites and prisoners something to live for? What? They threaten that if the outside world intervenes, they will blow the city, then don't when they capture special forces operatives trying to organize a resistance?

Was all of it to spite Batman and upset him as he languished in his cell? That seems like quite a risky and pointless detour from his holy super important mission to fulfill his destiny and nuke an entire city.

                            • I guess Bane gets off on breaking people and making them realize all hope is lost prior to their death. Fine, whatever, very deep. But the second he saw Batman was back he should have realized enough's enough and detonated the bomb.

                              • The director of Dark Knight Rises said that one of the themes he included in the film is that society is rotting from the bottom up, because of top-down economic injustice. The villain, Bane, exploited that to full advantage.
