In this case, wouldn't more concealed carries have led to a chain reaction of people seeing a guy opening fire at a movie premiere, gunning him down, and getting shot by like-minded people who get shot in turn? It's not like people have, or take, a lot of time to think things through during a gunfight...

No. What would happen is the concealed carry guy will accidentally kill a few more people in the cross-fire.

This is a terrible argument for gun rights and people need to stop making it. You DON'T want more people with guns in these situations.


However, from my understanding, people in the front row had the opportunity to take him out since he started shooting into the back rows from the front of the theater. That wouldn't have necessarily required a weapon. Just quick-thinking and the balls to risk self-sacrifice in a situation you can't walk away from. That 2% of the population that takes action in these circumstances was clearly not in the front row.

If you start to look at the really big picture here, the obvious question arises: How does an

unemployed medical student afford all the complex weapons gear, bomb-making gear, "flammable" booby trap devices, ammunition, multiple magazines, bullet-proof vest, groin protection, ballistic helmet, SWAT uniform and all the rest of it?

A decent AR-15 rifle costs $1,000 or more all by itself. The shotgun and handgun might run another $800 total. Spare mags, sights, slings, and so on will run you at least another $1,000 across three firearms. The bullet-proof vest is easily another $800, and the cost of the bomb-making gear is anybody's guess. With all the specialty body gear, ammunition, booby-trap devices and more, I'm guessing this is at least $20,000 in weapons and tactical gear, much of which is very difficult for civilians to get in the first place.

The mere manufacture of an explosive booby-trap device is, all by itself, a felony crime by the way. And remember: "Aurora Police Chief Dan Oates said Holmes' apartment is booby-trapped with a 'sophisticated' maze of flammable devices. Question: Where does an unemployed, introverted medical school student get the training to deploy sophisticated booby traps, tactical body armor, weapons systems and more? Certainly not in graduate school!

In my limited movie going experience, it's mostly kids and latecomers with no other options (read: indecisive people who couldn't decide what to wear or where to park) that sit in the front row. (I prefer to sit in the front row , but rarely get to since no one else I know does.)

I like how they're pop-guns when they're to ward off invasion, and they're psycho Rambo machine guns when they're used to shoot up a school or movie theater.
