  • Finally got a job!

After weeks of applying to positions to no avail, I finally got an interview yesterday with a summer camp that teaches classes to middle school students over the summer. I'm getting paid $15.00/hour to teach kids basic programming, web design and math.

    I'm very excited

        Congrats!

But...15 USD? That's kind of low pay. Well, it's better than no job.

That's actually good pay for a summer job.
I came upon a barroom full of bad Salon pictures in which men with hats on the backs of their heads were wolfing food from a counter. It was the institution of the "free lunch" I had struck. You paid for a drink and got as much as you wanted to eat. For something less than a rupee a day a man can feed himself sumptuously in San Francisco, even though he be a bankrupt. Remember this if ever you are stranded in these parts. ~ Rudyard Kipling, 1891

            My summer jobs were:

            Dishwashing
            Programming (updating old FORTRAN code)
Physics Research (solving a problem using fortran)
Nothing (after I graduated, i just played games before I started classes... was a bit wasted actually)

Comparing pay rate to pay rate is kind of useless if you don't take into account purchasing power, benefits, etc.

BTW, my post was in agreement that summer jobs are hard.

I don't think any of mine were 15 per hour.
