In my field, the lack of qualifed craft (read also people capable of passing the required psych and security screenings) people simply requried to provide routine maintenance to our nuclear fleet is routinely taxed at every major outage. Forget about it when considering major contruction projects such as adding new plants.

You don't ****ing need grad school to get a good job. If we should be trending anywhere, it's towards less education. We send way more people to college than we need to, for instance, anyone who gets a degree in art or english.

Not at the moment. Upper management doesn't want to hire anybody until we know how the regs will shake out.

I just know there's a list whenever we have to bring someone in for welding, and the local machine shop has to turn away business for lack of enough machinists.

We mostly use American Boiler for non-machining work.

I knew there was wisdom in the postings. Used to be a plant manager myself of a chemical plant once upon a time.

Hows the regulatory climate treating you?

Not too bad. We're a small quantity generator considering going for conditionally exempt status. Kansas is nowhere near as strict as New Jersey, our particulates (talc) exhaust gets a short visit from the county once a year and our little oxidizer doesn't even require an annual report.

We're still going through the Federal greenhouse gas emissions regs, I suspect our oxidizer may have a problem there.
