And I said this? Where? Never said this. Only that it's not an either/or question.Explain how posting the exact same stuff about other peoples' sins several dozen (several hundred?) times is going to benefit your soul more than, say, reflecting on your own sins.
The fact that even you cannot actually represent my argument correctly suggests to me that no, people haven't understood what I have said about this issue. I see it as a duty. The turnaround at this site is not very high, everybody has heard your spiel about sex by now. And as far as I know you're still a virgin and the Bible hasn't changed recently, so you have nothing new to offer on the subject.Scouse Git (2) La Fayette Adam Smith Solomwi and Loinburger will not be forgotten.

Do you have any idea how insane this sounds?Originally posted by Ben Kenobi View PostThe fact that even you cannot actually represent my argument correctly suggests to me that no, people haven't understood what I have said about this issue. I see it as a duty.
Originally posted by Ben KenobiThe entire population of Apolyton is obsessed with this one particular issue, and they just don't understand my stance on it, therefore I'm going to spend 9+ years repeating my arguments until they finally realize how right I've been this whole time. Your time on Apolyton spent reflecting on your own sins is a bare fraction of the time you've spent reflecting on the sins of others. At best it goes "I'm a sinner. Now let me detail how horrible your sins are."Originally posted by Ben Kenobi View PostAnd I said this? Where? Never said this. It's not a matter of pedantry; the way you put it, it sounded like you were saying all religious people (not just Plomp/BK/whoever) were bad. Unambiguously so. I'm just saying, if that wasn't intentional, you might want to be more careful how you phrase things. Suppose I said to Leopold II (sorry, he's the only evil Belgian I'm familiar with) "A comment on human rights from a Belgian? Because you people are always decent and humane..." Would you read that as a slur against Leopold and his underlings, or against Belgians in general?Originally posted by dannubis View PostDo you really want to be this pedantic ?

Are you even aware of what kind of a sinner I am?Your time on Apolyton spent reflecting on your own sins is a bare fraction of the time you've spent reflecting on the sins of others. At best it goes "I'm a sinner. Now let me detail how horrible your sins are.
There's a difference between, "people", "you" and "everybody". Some have and do understand. Some, like you do not.If you've spent years repeating your arguments and nobody has understood them, then maybe it's time to take up a new vocation.

So what you are saying, is that you do understand what I am saying, yet deliberately parse out my argument incorrectly?Do you have any idea how insane this sounds?Scouse Git (2) La Fayette Adam Smith Solomwi and Loinburger will not be forgotten.

I don't think he believes it is his job to decide what kind of sinner you are. That's God's job - you'd be best to remember such.Originally posted by Ben Kenobi View PostAre you even aware of what kind of a sinner I am?“I give you a new commandment, that you love one another. No, you've never spoken of it. Like I said, any reference to your own shortcomings is drowned out by your focus on everybody else's shortcomings. And no, you're not regarded like this simply because you're a Christian - there aren't that many atheists on this forum. (And besides, isn't your fornicating racist buddy David Floyd an atheist? And I won't.No, you've never spoken of it.
You're making some amusing assumptions there. Anyways, you don't know my sins. God does. I have enough of them anyways, and I'm not going to share them with you here. However, if you're going to go on about how x and y really aren't sins, then yes, I'm going to argue otherwise.Like I said, any reference to your own shortcomings is drowned out by your focus on everybody else's shortcomings. "Woe is me I'm a sinner and so on, now let's talk about your sins!"
That's the difference between you and me. I don't talk about my sins because I believe that they are sinful and that they shouldn't be discussed. You don't believe your sins are sinful, so you talk about them and argue that other people should accept your sins as not sinful.
See the difference?
What, Ming and rah? I'm sorry that they believe that preaching Christ crucified is harmful to their faith, but I'm not going to stop doing it because it's what Christ teaches.Who have you converted? I've only seen people post about how you've had a negative impact on their faith.
If they can convince me that Christ doesn't teach this, then fine, but otherwise, that's not what their argument is about.
As for others, nobody you know.
That's not a vocation. What do you think my vocation should be?Remove the log from your own eye.
Dear, Apolyton is hardly 'the universe' and I am hardly 'universally regarded' here as such. Perhaps you regard me as a dishonest hypocrite, but why is it that those who have spent time with me in person, tend to keep coming back and saying the same things? When you're almost universally regarded as a dishonest hypocrite
Stand up for yourself, Loin, speak what you believe, don't hide behind other people's skirts.
So because Christ spent time with prostitutes that makes him a prostitute too? I disagree with Floyd on some things, but he has and will continue to be my friend. When the chips were down he helped me out, not for his benefit but for mine. Yes, we have some things in common, and many more than you might think, but we are different people. And no, you're not regarded like this simply because you're a Christian - there aren't that many atheists on this forum. Amen! And very well put. When your reputation is as low as Ben's is, then there is no souls being won over to the Faith. In fact, Christianity is given a bad name when someone who speaks in Jesus's name is seen as intellectually dishonest, engaging in strawman arguments, and hypocritical. There are plenty of Christians who are seen in a decent light. People may disagree with Nikolai, Jon Miller or Robert Plomp, but at least they respect them in their debate style and honesty (and Nikolai, at least, can be seen as being more on the conservative side of the line - so it isn't that either).Originally posted by loinburger View PostRemove the log from your own eye. The other issue is that you completely and amazing miss the point, as on this quote, so often that either you have massive trouble reading, cannot engage in interpreting text, or are intellectually dishonest.Originally posted by Ben Kenobi View PostSo because Christ spent time with prostitutes that makes him a prostitute too?
