You've probably spent too much time collecting useless knowledge. Have you ever owned an SUV and will you ever own one?

        • Yes, I have owned an SUV, but it was in no way a close substitute for the Yukon.

                Great.

                1) How do you justify the information gap between most buyers and the complexity of financial instruments?
                2) Aren't the same products incentive for insider tipping/trading?

What do you mean, "justify"? I have no idea why you think that it's required that both parties to a transaction know exactly the same things; in fact, under assumptions of asymmetric information, the standard result will be that there will be too little trading instead of too much. Is it your contention that there i too little trading of complex financial instruments? Furthermore, it is not free to discover information about financial instruments; there needs to be an incentive to pay this price, and in any given transaction the incentive will come at the expense of the less-informed party. Finally, even with this knowledge, the less-informed party may well rationally choose to enter into a transaction; competition between those on the other side of the transaction will limit the amount he can be charged for his ignorance, and if this is lower than both the expense he would have to undertake in order to become more informed, and is lower than the gains from trade, the transaction will proceed rationally and all sides will benefit ex-ante.

                  2) Aren't the same products incentive for insider tipping/trading?

The "best" product for insider trading is likely cash equities and listed derivatives; they are cheap to transact, they provide anonymity between buyer and seller, and the volume is enormous, disguising insider trading patterns. Further, I have my doubts about the advisability of insider trading rules, especially as currently being enforced (attempted to enforce?) by the SEC. (note that I personally do not trade anything more idiosyncratic than country-specific indices).

                  • Note that only a price-taker is guaranteed limited downside to his ignorance through competition; a price-maker has his ass hanging out on the line because he quotes actionable two-way prices on demand.

Didn't you move out before you were 18 or something? I'm guessing you had trouble with your parents?
