It does happen; had the quote of Ben saying "I was wrong" in my sig for awhile. Maybe a year ago? I worked hard for the better part of a week to get him to admit it. Whatever-the-frack it was, I can't recall. But I felt pretty damned triumphant at the time.

And my guess is he'll be posting shortly to say that he admitted being wrong within this very thread.

Lots of property divided and no support payments. (think two doctors married with similar incomes)
and no property divided and high support payments (party A works and scrimps and saves and puts party B through medical school-- they have jack squat to divide but the new income of the doctor will lead to healthy support)
Or any variation in between . . .

So to think either one is a subset of another is fundamentally wrong. They are different things that are tested differently, apply differently to married versus unmarried couples and have very little to do with one another.Try again.

From what I can see, the law can't step in and say, "this is good", and then say, "this is not". If you have an argument as to why a platonic same sex roommate cannot claim partnership under the current laws in Canada, I'd love to see it.

Right now, all Canuck law cares about is the 2 year period. That's it.
