Ben wasn't raised Catholic, though. He was an Anglican. All up in that WASPiness, even with the right faith.

Except that my ancesters were Lutheran pastors, Irish Communists, German Catholics living in Masuria, and good englishmen who belonged to the COE.

My father was a Baptist. Religious plurality has pretty much been the only constant in my life. I don't have that deep root in Catholicism that so many people do have.

Yeah, I am a religious flip flopper. I've only been a Catholic for a little more than 6 years. In a sense it will never be as much a part of me as those who have been born in it.

Masuria. It's East Prussia, specifically Royal Prussia that was rules by Poland for centuries. That's why the Germans there were Catholic, instead of Lutheran as they were in Ducal Prussia. We only found that out a few years ago.
