In the 70's/80's Atlanta, Kids with disabilities were kind of shut off from the rest of the school. Even if they went to your school, you rarely spoke or talked too them. Gays were among you but they were attacked for being gay, everything from verbal, pushing, hitting to whatever. I had a gay friend in high school. I never communicated with a deaf person until I was 38. I think it's two different kinds of discrimination. One were you are separate but equal, the other were society tries to make you conform. Either way there both bad if you're on the receiving end.

Here is something I believe George Carlin surmised in a stand up routine, very simple:

We have so many laws, and those such as Hate Crimes which have to be more thoroughly investigated to actually prove they transpired. Why is this so?

Why cant society convict someone of a crime and the courts render punishment commensurate with the crime?

I know as much if not more than most all here about hate crimes and constant violence, real,painful physical abuse almost unto death, I know all about being beaten,called names held down,urinated on,broken glass ground into my body, beaten with rebar and bats and sticks, teeth kicked out of my head and genitals kicked so many times I bled internally severely on too many occassions.

I love people, I am a Christian,many Christians do wrong things like non Christians, but me being a Christian does not make me personally think I am above nor below anyone. I have no ill will toward anyone, even the trolls who sit and type aimlessly looking for a response, its ok, your entitled to type right along with the rest of us.

Again, my hearts aches and my soul despairs when I see this violence.

I have many friends from times past who are Gay and or transgendered. I stood up for them and to share, were very sincere and I also met some rude and obnoxious Gays who attacked me because I was not Gay, but thats ok because we have both sides covered completely with people woth wrong assumptions and wrong motives.

I just wanted to share I wish we could all get along, period!

I have less than half my hearing.

Those 'high pitched' sounds are pretty much everything over 1000 decibels. Speech is centered at 1000 decibels, so most stuff I can't hear at all, and what I can hear are parts of what people say to me.

My impairment is classified as the most severe grade.

The average reading level for people with my impairment is around grade 3 which has been consistant for pretty much since they started keeping records. The system is broken and nobody cares.

So yeah, gay people have it tough in the world. My heart bleeds for them.

Yeah, I had to go to a 'camp' to fix my deafness. Went to them all through school. It's called speech therapy. Yeah, I got verbally attacked plenty.

Yes, they do.

The problem is it's a difference in scale. Gay teens kill themselves 3-6x as often as the other "lots of people" who get bullied.
