I'm amused by Drake and HC justifying their own prejudices (or, more appropriately, their allegiance to prejudiced political positions) by claims of the necessary precedence of other political matters combined with the relief of this remaining a state instead of a federal issue because, presumably, the former means more gays will lack this civil right. And then Drake wants to turn this into a discussion about the philosophical nonexistence of rights

Drake is just a stupid troll, and he figured the easiest way to take shots at people would be to claim politicians should be dithering over budgetary matters instead of dithering over gay marriage.

How is this supposed to make a lick of sense? Would your marriage be in any way degraded if homosexuals were married? I'd hope the strength and value of your future marriage is entirely predicated on the strength and value of the relationship you would have with your wife, not on the marriage status of your neighbors or those across the country, whether they be man and woman, man and man, or woman and woman.

But the company that makes his wedding cake might also make wedding cakes for teh gays, and that would be tragic.

Ben, your entire argument revolves around social consequences. Clearly, you know the health of your future marriage hinges on your future wife and yourself, not what other people do. So concerns about the sanctity of (your) marriage are meaningless. Instead, you're concerned with the sanctity of (OTHER PEOPLE'S!) marriages.

And, that, sir, is cramming your ideals down other people's throats.

People are angry that they didn't get a chance to vote on it to have a say on how they will be represented.

The reason it's not put on a ballot, is because you don't really believe in democracy, unless it agrees with you. And you know most people do not support it.
That's right - I oppose mob rule where the majority's bigotry can suppress the rights of a minority. I suppose desegregation and enfranchisement of blacks in 1950s should have been put up for popular vote.

                      Mob rule FTW!!

As for HC and Drake diminishing the importance of civil rights in favor of money/economics, the day that conservatives no longer take an issue with treating gays as equals we can devote that much more attention to money issues.

Government by the consent of the people. Do you sincerely believe that gay people are oppressed as black people were in the 50s? No. You've even admitted this was so.

This is all about forcing your opinions on other people, and acting surprised when they push back.

Drake, you and BK should get married - you both have the same kind of love for tyrannical rule.

Some of the founding Fathers warned against the tyranny of the majority, so they provided checks against such a thing from happening. But you being an ignorant jackass, you probably didn't know about this part of our history.
