      Fvck you.

I know all about realism with the issue of gay marriage, because I and others in the local gay community have been dealing with a vicious backlash in Iowa brought on by out-of-state bigots.

I don't need jackasses like you to put realism into my face - I have seen some of the backlash.

And don't be such an ******* to tell others that they shouldn't discuss issues just because they don't live in that other state.

        Thumbs up New York, indeed.

Actually, he's pretty close to the truth, in this case. This is hardly a pressing issue, particularly with the economic and fiscal situation most of the country (including New York) is in.

Yeah, why won't the New York state legislature fix the economy already?

That's a good question. An even better question is why they aren't trying to get their fiscal house in order like neighboring New Jersey.

So please provide us at what percentage of the population has to be effected by a bill before a legislature should be considering it, and under what precise economic conditions. I guess a chart would be in order. I presume you'd also have protested the 1964 Civil Rights Act under the same reasoning, as no doubt Congress could have passed something else that effected more than ~14% of the population at that time, right?

And if you really believe the rights and benefits of marriage amount to just a "scrap of paper saying so," you're even more of an ignorant ass than I imagined.

This is no more a basic civil right than polygamy. Yeah, I went there.
So you really are that stupid.

Loving v. Virginia established marriage as a fundamental right. If you don't agree with that, then I guess you're a-OK with anti-miscegenation laws.

It's amazing to me that people on both the left and the right are so willing to get spun up about relatively unimportant culture war issues while paying comparatively little attention to important economic issues.

Sorry if silly things like "human rights" sometimes distract people from money...

Yes, people do love to talk about poorly-supported concepts like "rights" while they climb up on their moral high horse. Good example.

I agree with Drake. The republicans wasted too much time dithering on this issue.

I wonder why they didn't hold a vote on it.

Guess we'll see a redux of Maine.

So, you cram your ideals down other people's throats, and you are put out when they do the same to you? Why are you surprised.

People are angry that they didn't get a chance to vote on it to have a say on how they will be represented.

The reason it's not put on a ballot, is because you don't really believe in democracy, unless it agrees with you. And you know most people do not support it.
