Why is it so hard to be a part-time bank teller (or to get any job)?

  • I mostly use debit card, cash at bars and anything under £5, credit card for expensive stuff, stuff I want guaranteed.

Mainly my post was a cheap ageist shot at HC.

It's not cheap for businesses to bank with cash either.

Eh, all the "capability" it takes is to know from past threads some characteristics of your name, pull up old Fox School of Business dean's lists and a graduate honor's list, pull an address from a name, identify nearby branches, and skype in to ask if a certain name is available at a given time. Believe what you want, but don't act surprised when Bill or his subordinates give you some weird looks this week.
          Unbelievable!

It's cheaper than the percentage they have to pay the CC companies. Especially if it's AMEX. (which is why some merchants won't accept AMEX)

Not if you work in a bank with a hard sales culture. Then it's just soul-destroying.

Wells Fargo is a very sales-oriented retail bank. Guess it'll be soul-destroying. I can deal with part-time soul-destroying though

                              • I've never needed a teller in my life. Ever.

Hell, I only visit the ATM once every 3 months or so...and ideally within a few years I'll only need an ATM extremely rarely. I withdraw $100 in cash every 3 months and that usually lasts me.
Tellers are wonderful. I would hate to bank anywhere that didn't have a teller service available to me. I like being able to interact person to person to get my banking stuff sorted out.
