I'm prepared to hold judgment on that. This matter is sure to make its way to the UNSC so let's wait and see if the US exercises its veto.

      • Maybe Israel needs some instruction from Canada on how to board enemy ships via helicopter without any injuries.

Some ship was holding some Canadian military equipment hostage in international waters 10 or so years ago. Sent in an armed boarding party of 14 via helicopter, despite the ship swerving around and trying to avoid them. Ship controlled, no injuries.

          • Jordan is certainly no Canada when it comes to gay rights...but nor is Israel.

              I'm curious.
I thought you meant during the era prior to World War 2. But if you justify your claim that Canada is not notoriously backwards like the US because they had 1% population of Jews, let me point out that the US had about 4% at that point.

It was hard from 1935-1939 because the immigration minister at the time was an anti-Semite. I was referring to the bigger picture.
I see. But apart from the widespread anti-semtism and anti-semites in positions of power, prevention of Jews from jobs, clubs, beaches, etc, Canada was a paragon of progressiveness towards Jews compared to the US at the time.

Not our fault the jews don't like our winters.

                Correct.

The big picture here is there was no large-scale antisemitism after WW2, when Israel was founded. The claim they had "no where else to go" was demonstrably false.

Hell, the jews had more rights and were more accepted by society in 1949 than homosexuals but I don't see the UN setting up the Fabulous Isle of Man. Keep in mind homosexuals were also targeted in the holocaust.

                • 1) You also made mention to women and non-Muslims having no place to go besides Israel. That's patently false because of the existence of Jordan (not to mention Turkey and Lebanon [although Lebanon is a more complicated case]),
                  2)
Homosexuality per se is not illegal in Jordan, although it remains a taboo subject due to the fact that traditional Arabic culture and Islam view homosexuality and cross-dressing as signs of immorality.
It's a taboo subject and Christians view it as signs of immorality here in the USA! What's your point?

The point is it is not illegal; you won't be prosecuted for being gay in Jordan.

                  • Israel, Jordan, Turkey, Iraq and Cyprus are the only countries in the Middle East[3] where homosexuality between consenting adults in private is not illegal and homosexuals are not persecuted under law.
So Jordan, Turkey, Iraq, and Cyprus.

                    • Jews comprise 1.7-2.2% of the US population today. Who thinks they were 4% of the US population in 1946?

                      • In the 1940s Jews comprised 3.7% of the national population.

                        • You might be right on that (it's not cited, however). But you sure love putting up links that undermine your other claims. From that link:

Having never been subjected to the Holocaust, the United States stood after the Second World War as the largest, richest, and healthiest center of Judaism in the world. Smaller Jewish communities turned increasingly to American Jewry for guidance and support.[31]
Immediately after the Second World War, some Jewish refugees resettled in the United States, and another wave of Jewish refugees from Arab nations settled in the US after expulsion from their home countries.
                          Rampant antisemitism my ass.

Following the Second World War and the American Civil Rights Movement, anti-Jewish sentiment waned. Some members of the Black Nationalist Nation of Islam claimed that Jews were responsible for the exploitation of black labor, bringing alcohol and drugs into their communities, and unfair domination of the economy. Furthermore, according to surveys begun in 1964 by the Anti-Defamation League, a Jewish organization, African Americans are significantly more likely than white Americans to hold antisemitic beliefs, although there is a strong correlation between education level and the rejection of antisemitic stereotypes for all races. However, black Americans of all education levels are nevertheless significantly more likely than whites of the same education level to be antisemitic. In the 1998 survey, blacks (34%) were nearly four times as likely as whites (9%) to fall into the most antisemitic category (those agreeing with at least 6 of 11 statements that were potentially or clearly antisemitic). Among blacks with no college education, 43% fell into the most anti-Semitic group (vs. 18% for the general population), which fell to 27% among blacks with some college education, and 18% among blacks with a four-year college degree (vs. 5% for the general population)
Gasp... Let HC see that Blacks tend towards antisemitism. He'll probably want them hung up in the trees of Virginia!
