Make a public statement that the ship has stated that they are ignoring the warning.
Wait for ship to enter their waters.
Make a public statement that the ship will be boarded to search for weapons.
Attempt to board ship during the day under the scrutiny of the press.

Does Hamas have weapons that could be effective against a ship within twenty-four miles of the coast?

Pretty sure the Israeli ships have anti-missile defense systems for those rudimentary missiles. Even assuming they do have the missiles, which I highly doubt.

They surely
a) don't have the surgical rocket required for such a task.
b) are not as good as the Israelis at ****ing up PR-wise. They would have gained nothing from a rocket attack on an Israeli ship.

The fact that it was in international waters has nothing to do with it. They were going to enter israeli waters. International trade with countries other than Israel has not been impeded, so your international waters argument is really ****ing stupid.

Also, the fact that it was at night isn't a relevant detail in the slightest and I'm not sure why anyone felt the need to bring it up.
