The job I'm applying for is looking for someone who is: a. At TJHSST. b. Taken a bunch of computer science classes. c. Taken some electronics classes. d. Experienced in using linux.

That is pretty much me exactly.

Also I have ben on ignore. I wasn't paying attention to the fact that he was posting until you pointed it out.

BTW Asher perhaps you can PM me your email or something? I was wondering if I could ask you questions about CS careers.

I know someone who is currently hiring a senior accountant (~60k), she trashes any resume over 2 pages pretty much without looking at it. She says one page is best, two pages she will look at. She goes through dozens of resumes, there's no time for long ones. She's the one who told me about putting specifics about what you did for the company that improved them; she says that's a sign that the resume had professional help. She's been an HR director for a long time.

Senior accountants make ~$60K? That's it?

I made more than that right out of school.

I also don't see how any accountant should have more than a 1-page resume.

I think a lot of the people pooh-poohing longer resumes don't understand technology jobs. Not all CS grads are the same, there's a MASSIVE differentiation brought on by experience. Short resumes that leave out critical experiences are good ways to not get noticed.

Every job I've had, the employers latch on to several projects listed on my resume that interest them. If I didn't list all of the projects I worked on, I would've been another bland CS grad. It was those specific experiences that made them interested in me.

I handwrite my resumes on a sticky notes so that employers won't lose them.

About 60K, I heard. I suppose they go higher. Dunno exactly, I'm not the person doing the hiring.

It was worth slightly more last week, IIRC.

It's all about the odds. Do you want to take the chance of someone trashing your resume because it's too long? The job of editing is to say quite a bit in a little space. I know you don't understand it because it's an 'artsy fartsy' skill.

And long resumes are a good way to get binned before anyone takes a look at them.

So why not post your resume up here then. I bet I can fit all that on a page without losing anything critical.

The issue for HC is that with his age and experience, one page should be enough. You're old and have done a ton of ****. Now once HC is out of college and has been working a bit, he can consider lengthen his resume. Unfortunately by that time, computers will be obsolete.

Yeah, as I'd mentioned, at his age, 1 page is loads.
