What you don't understand, and eventually will, is that good sex goes a LONG way in building an intimate connection based on trust and complicity. The quality of the intimacy makes it more likely for a couple to face their issues as a "team".

Just because most people will not be so open about their sexual motives and desires (especially older folks) doesn't mean sexual fulfillment isn't a large part of your well-being.

Agreed, but intimacy is far more than just sex. Great sex is one thing, but by itself isn't going to be enough to sustain a marriage.
