I know what you mean. There are religious parents who genuinely think they have the best intentions in hoping they can "change" their child's sex orientation, then there are religious parents who are even more bigoted and just disown their kid outright, and then we have religious parents who come to accept their gay/lesbian child.

Have you ever seen the movie, Save Me? Powerful movie that is all about this issue with an ex-gay organization. You might want to see it.

And back to the horrible suicide rate among gay teenagers - it's just deplorable. A combination of bullying in school and unsympathetic or even outright bigoted parents makes for a deadly combination.

And I take offense at your remark that those who belong to United Churches or Metropolitan Community Churches are not real Christian. I feel no less Christian because I'm a member of MCC.

Because Christians are hateful bigots like Ben.

You guys need a new name if you want to be sensible. Christianity is already taken.

I meant it as a compliment.

'Christian' is not a good thing to be these days.

Christianity is a good thing when practicing radical hospitality and unconditional love.

It applies to us if we seek godliness, leading by example. So God is a fornicator but fornication is evil? Actually, that would be adultery I guess - she was married and God conceived a child with her. Kinda deflates any moral teachings against adultery and fornication when thats how God conceived a kid.

            Christ said it.
Where did Jesus say fornication was detrimental to mental and physical health?

It's also majority Muslim, so I'm not sure what your point is here.
They teach against sex outside of marriage too. Your argument implied that practice produces healthier and happier people.

Why is it beneficial? The west isn't really all that well-adjusted either. Fornication doesn't seem to be helping society keep running.
Sharing such intimacy is very important, its better to know if your spouse is sexually satisfying before you marry. Among the main reasons for failed marriages is lack of lust when lust matters... Of course in the past unsatisfied women were often stuck in those marriages because of religious divorce laws. The West shouldn't be better adjusted, we're the renegades, the perpetrators and victims of future shock, the newest cultures on the planet. Its the "conservative" societies with their entrenched values that should be producing these paragons of mental and physical health.

I think I can be sexually compatible with my future spouse without having sex with her.
Not everyone values thinking that over knowing it.

Quite the contrary, Christians are the only ones who condemn the practice. Look around you. Is there anyone else against trafficking people? No. Just Christians.
Where did Jesus tell people slavery was evil and to abolish it? And where did Jesus say fornication was evil?

Fornication is one of the few things that is 100 percent in our control. We choose to sleep with another person. This is different from environmental hazards. As for work, it was not always so, but that was the Curse of Adam.
Adam was created to till the ground before any "curse", but we choose to pollute, we choose dangerous jobs, we choose all sorts of detrimental behaviors for a variety of reasons. Tell LT he's evil because he chose a rather dangerous profession Hmm...you derive pleasure from watching detrimental behavior, true?

But fornication and sodomy are destructive habits.
I dont even know how to define sodomy but fornication is not a destructive habit, its done maybe a few to a dozen times before marriage... For those who dont marry, some sex is better than no sex. But I doubt you'd call it a habit unless we're talking Tiger sex

It's just as harmful as teaching them to abuse drugs. If you want your kids to learn about these things, teach them yourself.
If its harmful why do you think its responsible for Christians to teach children homosexuality is evil?

The noose is not on the Christians who tell them that their dignity worth and value is not centered on who they ****.
We were debating if its responsible to teach children homosexuality is evil... You said it was, now you have a new message. We're making progress

I'm not much for internet confessions, but I do regret my contribution to the environment of hate and rejection Asher mentioned. I'm guilty too... That little voice in my head tells me so...

Most of us are guilty of it. I was, too. I was calling everyone ***, everything gay in jr high and first years of high school too.

It's just part of our culture, unfortunately.

                    • I haven't called anyone a "***" in a very long while.

I have played "is this gay" however.

I use the word "queer" sometimes even though some others find it somewhat offensive. I've never used the word "******" no matter how angry I could get about something or with someone. It just has too strong of violent connotation for me.
