Vatican Declined to Pursue Accused Priest

A Catholic priest from India who has been criminally charged with sexually assaulting a 14-year-old girl in Minnesota six years ago is still working in his home diocese in India despite warnings to the Vatican from an American bishop that the priest continued to pose a risk to children, according to church documents released Monday.

The documents show that the American bishop warned the Vatican that the priest was accused of molesting two teenage girls whose trust he gained by promising to discuss their interest in becoming nuns. The county attorney in Minnesota is seeking to extradite the priest from India in a criminal case that involves one of the girls, who said the priest had forced her to perform oral sex and had threatened her and her family.
A priest charged with abusing a girl in Minnesota has been allowed to continue working at a diocese in India.

Your assertion was how these were all "gay priests" doing it, so the article is both interesting and relevant. Find another obvious excuse to ignore it.

Does it always take you so long to work up a lather, or do you just like making people think you actually give a **** when you don't?

No reason to respond to the facts that were posted. THEY"RE FACTS that support what most of us have been posting. It's your attitude about those facts is what draws the attention around here.

Yet, given ample opportunity to defend the children you failed to do so. Perhaps you should be thanking me for bringing it to your attention. Better late then never I suppose.

What attitude? That the Church is consistantly been proven to be in the right, and that the stories are paraded about by those who hate the church who don't give a whit about the children?

Look rah, you've had plenty of opportunity to express yourself here, and you failed to do so. That's rather disappointing from my end.

It sure does... but it is says something far different then what you think.

                    It's really very simple.

When somebody says something stupid and also defends those that protect people who rape and attack children, people are going to respond.

It also tells me that people care about the fact that this is the Catholic church. Not so much about the children.

                      • Ok, I'll be clear. If the RCC really wants people to believe they're more serious about fixing the problem then covering their ASS, the pope should apologize to all the victims and resign. People might actually take the church seriously after that. Maybe after more is discovered about the Pope's role in some of the covering up and the policy decisions during the crisis, maybe he'll admit his own wrong doing. But I won't hold my breath.

In any other organization in the world, if 1/10 of what has been unearthed about the church, the CEO would either have resigned or been fired. The church just keeps looking worse by not doing the same.

Won't happen. But it's good to get this out in the open, that this is not about the children but about attacking the Panzerkardinel.

Or perhaps, they would conclude that the Church is beholden to the western media and the new york times, and would merely step up the attacks.

I stand confident that the media has no interest in investigating the department of education in the USA, and the abuse that happens every day to the children in their charge. But that would mean that public education would come under fire.

                          Yet the Times is silent.

Oh, I am certain that if it were any other organisation other than the Catholic church, these allegations would never reach the light of day.

Sure we care about it because it is the Catholic church... because it is in an institution that has allowed the abuse of children for years. You seem to be the one that doesn't care about the children since all you do is defend the institution that lets the abuse continue. So don't give me the ole, we don't care about he victims.

There wasn't much to be said about yet another story that shows how evil the Church has been. It speaks for itself. You on the other hand really piss people off by defending them... so no surprise people post in response to your denials and crap.

Wow, great way to feign outrage.
No need for us to feign it, you trigger enough outrage for everybody with you idiotic posts.

Again, you don't even think about the victims... only trying to defend an evil institiution.

                            • the reason this gets so much attention is that people that are generly trusted commit this crimes. also i dont know about everyone else but my gut reaction is worse to people that rape children then murders.
to defend and/or cover for people doing that in a trusted position is ****ing insane.

                              • Nearly 2,700 call German church abuse hot line
                                By JUERGEN BAETZ (AP)
                                Spoiler:
BERLIN — Nearly 2,700 people have called the church's sexual abuse hot line in Germany in the first three days it was operating, a Catholic church spokesman said Tuesday.

A team of psychologists and other experts had conversations with 394 people so far, ranging from several minutes up to an hour, Trier Diocese spokesman Stephan Kronenburg said.

"Most callers report cases of sexual abuse," he told The Associated Press.

The hot line — which began operating March 30 — received around 13,300 calls total in its first three days. Kronenburg said this worked out to about 2,670 people, as many called several times.

In addition, around 100 people used an online form to contact the service.

Most of the callers are people who say they were victims of sexual abuse or their relatives, with some callers also reporting cases of physical abuse, he said.

"The boundaries between both are often loose," Kronenburg added.

The Catholic Church in Pope Benedict XVI's homeland has been rocked by a widening scandal of physical and sexual abuse in recent weeks, with hundreds of people who say they were victims coming forward.

The church decided to set up a national hot line as pressure mounted and many victims seemed reluctant to report abuse cases to the diocese where they had been abused.

Most cases date back years, if not decades, and the statute of limitations may have passed, Kronenburg said.

"The hot line shall give the victims an opportunity to talk about what has happened to them. From there, we decide what to counsel them," Kronenburg told the AP.

Should the hot line experts learn of an alleged child abuse case involving a priest currently on duty, they would alert the diocese and also prosecutors, Kronenburg said.

In the past, the Catholic Church was accused of covering up abuse cases. Justice Minister Sabine Leutheusser-Schnarrenberger for instance spoke of a "wall of silence" surrounding the church.

During the Easter holidays, however, several prominent bishops — among them the dean of the bishops' conference, Robert Zollitsch — called for a "renewal" of the church and condemned the abuses cases as "heinous crimes."

In Munich, meanwhile, an independent lawyer hired by the church wrapped up his investigation of abuse allegations at the southern Ettal monastery.

"The investigation clearly shows a system of abuse that lasted for decades,"
                                Thomas Pfister told the AP.

There are some cases of sexual abuse, but most of the victims who came forward were physically abused, Pfister said in a telephone interview. Most cases happened before 1990, he added.

The lawyer declined to cite exact figures or release more details on the reported cases as his final report is due to be published next week.

Looks like the Associated Press has a rabid anti-Catholic bias.
