I think she's going to have to be pretty submissive with your interpretation of the Bible. You better become rich beyond your wildest dreams to bag that one.

That's because, deep down, you want to be dominated by an alpha male such as myself.

                      • Of course, Paul was writing in the 1st century and the whole women having rights thing was a bit foriegn (even though Jesus preached everyone was equal). I do believe that as Jesus preached in parables because it was easier for the hoi polloi to comprehend and understand them, the message given to the disciples by the Holy Spirit was tailored to help them absorb the general message, and that included women being subservient (of course, the radical thing was to have husbands have obligations as well). It's why the Spirit is still with us, so as we can understand and comprehend more things as time goes on, it can inform us better as to God's will.

After all, its all there in Jesus's words, "love thy neighbor as thyself" (Mark 12:31) - and quite frankly, I wouldn't want to be submissive to anyone so how can I mandate a wife to be?

Then again, I'm not a Biblical fundamentalist.
“I give you a new commandment, that you love one another. Just as I have loved you, you also should love one another. By this everyone will know that you are my disciples, if you have love for one another.”
                        - John 13:34-35 (NRSV)

                        • Reading over it again, I think Kid was needling Ben's more literalist reading of the Word (which is somewhat interesting for a Catholic to do so).

Personally I think being submissive is better than being bossy. That goes for everyone. But as far as marriage goes ultimately someone will have to be the more submissive one for the thing to work. I believe that the more submissive of the two is generally viewed higher with God.

But Ben has said in another thread that he takes it literally that wives should be the ones who should be submissive.

                            • So did Paul say which partner should be submissive in a gay marriage?

I am married and I totally don't agree. Equal partnership FTW.

Which means both people have to compromise sometimes.
