I recall those discussions. Both Asher and I said variations on the theme that there was little difference in the assessment of Broduer or Luongo, but that based on past history and more big-game experience, Broduer was the #1 going into the tournament and would play the first game that mattered and it would be his job to lose. We were proved correct. Broeduer played BOTH of the tougher games in the RR and based on his very mediocre play against the US, lost the job.
I KNOW that I contemplated that Broduer could lose the job and I believe Asher specifically contemplated it as well.
So to say Asher lost any bet is a downright lie
