We very much don't agree. I have too much self-respect to ever rip people off by selling them organic food.

See, Drake has principles. Me, I'm quite happy to sell organic food to people willing to pay a premium.

Since when do we use facts in discussions here in OFT?

I would expect you to subscribe the the philosophy "a fool and his money are soon parted".

I agree, organic is a total crock of ****.

The really big difference nutrient wise is fresh vs not so fresh. The fresher the produce, no matter how it was grown, the more vitamin packed they are. Old stuff or canned stuff or even frozen stuff loses some of the nutrient value. I will give the organic business this though they brought back a lot of heirloom verities of fruits & veggies which were originally breed for taste rather then just things big growers look for. The mass market tomatoes suck as they have hard skins and virtually no taste but the packing companies love them because they grow fast, are bright red, and the hard flesh doesn't bruise. Try some of the heirloom tomatoes and you'll find they have an incredible taste but the packing companies don't like them because they're soft so they bruise, they take longer to grow, they're smaller, they aren't always uniformly red, etc...

I do think something has to be done about farm run off which is causing massive water pollution and ocean dead zones but I'm not sure organic is really the answer. Plus there is the problem of lower productivity per acre on organic farms vs traditional farms but either way the consumer isn't harmed by having more options so I'm glad organic is out there even if I seldom buy it.

I don't know if the "organic business" deserves credit for this, but it is a positive development.

I'm not exactly sure what constitutes 'organic food' and I probably couldn't tell the difference between a regular tomato and an organically grown one, but it doesn't take a genius to tell that eating crap that has been coated with refined sugars like high fructose corn syrup or drenched in hydrogenated vegetable oils or any other chemical additive isn't good for your health. Just look at the people around you. Americans eat garbage and it sure as hell shows.

At the end of last year, I gave up eating food with refined sugars and reduced my consumption of starchy foods like bread, pasta, and potatoes in favor of fruits and vegetables. I don't have the urge to eat as much, I get better results from my gym routine, and I've lost 10 pounds as a result.

Compost over ~120 Degrees F. for a couple months (to kill pathogens) and it's fine.

Throw it around the garden raw and enjoy your plague.

Actually he's extremely correct. The amount of refined sugars and over processed foods such as white flour (which has had most of the nutrients and all the fiber removed) has shot up in the last couple hundred years. The amount of sugar in an apple or pear, even a really sweet one, is a lot less then the amount of sugar in a candy bar or a "health bar" which normally isn't very healthy at all and often is nothing more then a candy bar with a different wrapper. If you avoid eating foods with lots of refined sugars then you slash your risk to diabetes and heart disease so that's only smart and if you want to eat bread or pasta then get the whole grain stuff as at least it has the fiber and some of the vitamins left in it.

Whole grain bread has protein, minerals and essential amino acids, often seeds in nice bread. Whole grain pasta sucks bad regarding texture and taste; I'd rather eat boiled cardboard. Brown, wild, basmanti or other fragrant rice is best.

Not just that but also the husky of the wheat grain which is fiber and what not. If you're going to eat a bread or pasta (and who doesn't?) then at least make sure it's whole grain. With white flour they get rid of the bran and the germ of the seed leaving just the endosperm left. That means you've lost most of the nutritional value while it is the bulk of the fiber found in the bran which actually makes you feel full faster so you're more likely to over eat if you are eating a highly refined product then a whole wheat product.

calories in - calories consumed = weight gained or lost.

What you eat has something to do with it, but it is much more a function of how much.
