No, they were all dead. Christian clearly said that there was no "now" in the Sideways waystation (that is, there's no time as we know it there), so the Castaways could gather and move into the great beyond together even though Boone died in Season 1, Jack died at the end of Season 6 and Kate and Hurley died after the time period depicted on the show.KH FOR OWNER!

I didn't think it was poorly done. It was entertaining.
The guy's father left me with the impression that they all died in the crash, and that the entire series was the purgatory(ies) for those that needed it.(\__/)

With such a sappy ending, the least they could have done was shown us the moment of Kate's death, and how painful it was.
