Before you throw out that trite "framing the debate" catchphrase for the gazillionth time, could someone explain to me what that even means? Do the Dems not frame the debate anytime they make a well-founded argument that invites rebuttal, or vice versa?

What's a specific example of how the GOP frames the debate in a way that totally forecloses the possibility of the Dems making X or Y argument? I just don't understand the concept. Either you're persuasive, or you're not, right?

The GOP does nothing to foreclose the possibility of the Dems making X or Y argument. The Dems simply don't do it. They have no balls. They lack the courage of their convictions. They're scared ****less of losing elections. Their fear allows the GOP to dictate the terms of most debates, and nearly all of the important ones.

Well, I've got a hard time thinking of something as truly historically important that the GOP has done in the same time frame, so I'd say they're equally incompetent in governance. The Republicans are just much better at playing the game.

When 2012 presidential campaign comes around, Scott Brown could very well become a viable Republican presidential candidate - if the Republicans in Massachusetts can find someone else to take his Senate seat.

This passed only because of Republican support. In fact far more Democrats voted against this than Republicans in both real numbers and as a percentage of their own party's seated members.

To be fair, truly historically noteworthy activities are by design hard to come by in the US system of government. If what you mean by "progressive" is merely a large lefty government program, then those are hard to come by too because they are so costly that a few of them would bankrupt the country. Also, the politics in the country has shifted to the right rather substantially -- the fault of the progressives of yesteryear. One long march right since ~ 1933.

That's the only thing that really comes close, and it is debatable how much of that was due the Republican policies and how much was due to the USSR collapsing under its own weight.
