But no Democrat has the balls to propose something like that, for several reasons, one of them being getting just as much money from the ****ing insurance companies as the GOP does.
Exactly. South Korea has some of the highest life expectancies in the world despite lots and lots of smoking and alcoholism, has with universal insurance, spends about 5% of GDP on healthcare and I've gotten to see specialists in under half an hour after walking into their office without an appointment. The system isn't perfect (your office visit doesn't take one second longer than absolutely necessary) but comparing it to the nightmarish cluster**** of the US system hearing about how horrible it would be to do anything to change the US system just sounds a bit ridiculous...

        • President Clinton suffered from a major setback in the '94 mid-term elections. Didn't a lot of people start crowing about how Clinton would not be reelectable at that time? That the mid-term elections meant a denouncement of Clinton's presidency?

Given the possibility of such dramatic recovery from such setbacks, I think it's premature to proclaim that Obama is not reelectable.

I don't think Obama has it in him to pivot to the right as smoothly as Clinton did or to actually work with Republicans.

                • Patty and DD - but didn't many Republicans in '94 gleefully thought that Clinton would not get reelected?

                    • I'm serious - if many Republicans thought that Clinton would never get reelected back in '94 there is no reason that they could not be mistaken again, when 2012 comes around.

I don't think Obama has any idea he's unpopular, or that he actually is. I think most are mad at the Democratic Congress or more specifically it's leadership and their extreme dictatorship antics.

I'm a Republican and think Obama can get reelected as long as he keeps himself separate from the antics of Democratic Congressional leadership and plants the blame on them.

I don't think that he is personally unpopular. It's his policies and those advanced by his admin that are highly unpopular with the American public and I question how long before those numbers become a major drag on his own personal numbers without somesort of pivot away from the direction being rejected by the American people.

Hell after Brown's victory, some in the Dem party were argueing for an approach akin to "Damn the torpedoes! Full speed ahead!"
