Looks like the detainees in Gitmo agree with me that being in a relatively cushy prison in Cuba is a hell of a lot better than being in an American prison...

But the final irony is that many of the detainees may not even want to be transferred to Thomson and could conceivably even raise their own legal roadblocks to allow them to stay at Gitmo.

Falkoff notes that many of his clients, while they clearly want to go home, are at least being held under Geneva Convention conditions in Guantánamo. At Thomson, he notes, the plans call for them to be thrown into the equivalent of a "supermax" security prison under near-lockdown conditions.

"As far as our clients are concerned, it's probably preferable for them to remain at Guantánamo," he says.

The rest of the article explains why Obama will never close Gitmo.

I'm embarrassed to be a Republican in Illinois these days.

The repugs are trying to fight the move of them to the facility in Illinois by claiming that it will make the state a target for terrorism. HUH

      It's just embarrassing.

It's bad enough that the party hasn't offered any solutions at all, but just opposes anything the Dems propose in an attempt to make them look bad. The grand ole party looks pretty sad.

What's so hard to get? That seems a perfectly reasonable concern.

I'm pretty sure the GOP is offering the solution of keeping the detainees in the prison they're already in and processing them through a military tribunal system that has the approval of the US Supreme Court.

Silly Drake, don't you realise that solutions are for Democrats?

My comment was more a general complaint about the my political party since the election. They've become the obstructionists. Granted that is not that abnormal for the minority party but they've really taken it to an extreme that I'm not happy with.

So you're shocked and appalled that the opposition is opposing the agenda of the majority. You're a real genius...

Obviously you didn't read my post thoroughly enough. I didn't say I was shocked and said that a lot of it was to be expected but I thought they were going overboard. Demonstrate better reading comprehension next time please.

The GOP doesn't even have enough votes to go overboard in their opposition; they can't obstruct **** unless they get some Dems to help them. rah is just being a dip****...

I see you looked back and saw that you were wrong so your only response was to insult me. You're a joke.

They're opposing moving terrorists to an Illinois prison with the excuse that it will make the state a terrorist target. That is the most chicken**** thing I have ever heard. If you agree with that type of thinking, you're an even bigger idiot than I thought.

Seems like the Elephants obstruct for the sake of obstructing and to prevent Democratic political "victories", i.e. health care "reform".

There is very little substantive difference in major policy proposals of the two parties on issues important to voters. They both support enormous banker bailouts, obscene central banking powers and secrecy, expanded militarism, and curtailed civil liberties (with a view to "security"). Jefferson would not be proud.

Some view this as rational and correct agreement among policy-makers, I see it as a failed political system. There are alternatives - the status quo is not working, and has not worked for some years. We know both parties are in the front and back pockets of special interests and of the military-industrial complex, are not working in the interests of America, or responding to the will of the people on the major issues - namely war and economy.

Voters have a very wide range of ideological beliefs, but the two "opposition" parties are churning out basically the same **** in terms of both rhetoric and policy.
