Okay, let's talk logistics here, kids:

Suppose you're a recent Taliban/AQ/whatever escapee of a prison in Michigan. You presumably did not prepare for this eventuality when you were arrested in Bum****istan four years ago, and have no knowledge of Michigan. You have no friends in the area. Once you get out of the jail, you haven't the faintest idea where to go or what to do once you get there. And you can count on even the most incompetent prison guards to notice your absence within twenty-four hours.

Your English, if you have any, is spotty and heavily accented. For resources, you have only the tacky orange suit on your back. You have no weapons or normal clothes or transportation, no money to buy said items, and a massive manhunt up your ass. Exactly how are you going to strike a blow for Allah before you are captured again? The best thing I can think of is, "find a really old nun and try that neck-snap thing they do in infidel Hollywood movies."

They did consider moving them to MCAS Miramar which is about one mile down the road. I'm really not concerned as the bars, fences, guards, and walls tend to keep prisoners in the prison. In fact moving them here might improve the local economy since the prison guard union is so good at getting pay raises.

To be fair, moving Gitmo detainees to the U.S., while unnecessary, is much less objectionable that releasing Gitmo detainees to countries like Saudi Arabia and Yemen where they can rejoin the fight against America.
