And I dont know why you are bringing up uniforms and spies etc, they were in their own country, not here planting bombs or spying. Some of these people were picked up by Afghan allies and we were offering bounties, that constitutes a fair trial in your book? Taliban grunts are not Al Qaeda... That is why the Geneva convention is very specific to say that they must be in uniform to be subject to their rules surrounding prisoners. The Bush administration has extended that privilege to the Gitmo terrorists, and I'm not sure that was such a wise decision. Is it better to trade the lives of the soldiers to ensure that these folks are imprisoned?

WRT to the war, no argument from me there, but that ship sailed some time ago. I don't believe Afghanistan was justified, but I do think considerable successes have been acheived. Democratically elected government is quite an accomplishment.
