The difference is of course of a religious nature. We Christians believe in God's word, and you know what it tells us. Nothing about cars or such there. We believe God has commanded us so for a reason, for our best. For those not believers, it can't be expected to be understood.

Got it. But then the 'just say no' approach should be admitted to be just that, a religiously based belief, rather than some idea that the notion is making the world better on any profane, practical, everyday life level.

Is there any double standard and/or any practical problem in that a boy (or a girl for that matter) knows roughly how to use a condom if need be, even if they have taken the 'pledge' (again, what a horrible, horrible term).

It's inconsistant with the message that you ought to wait until you are older. I find it rather difficult to believe that how to roll a condom on is high on the list of things teenagers need to know. Why don't we teach them how to do a proper line or roll a zigzag?

That was some amazingly bad sex ed you got, Ben. I went to public schools in BC a few years before you and was taught everything you think should be taught. On top of which, it was always made crystal clear that the only way sure-fire way to prevent STDs and pregnancy was abstinence. I also was never given free condoms.

There were no lifeguards and they gave my kids free lifejackets and taught them how to use them!
