Thanks Theben, I guess I must have watch the other Hitler Nazi speeches and marches in my Holocaust class in high school. Or maybe I missed the real speeches in my history classes over the years. Just because Barry didn't raise his arm up, didn't scream out Hail Obama! or any of the other Nazi crap does not mean to say that his sheeple are in blind loyalty to him. Pelosi was standing and applauding everything he said, while the opposition sat quietly listening for something that made sense to them and their constituents. I am sorry, but there isn't much he said that makes me believe he can fix anything and fix it right. You can't please everyone, of course, but pleasing your own and pissing off the rest is a bad call.

So KH, fill me in, is zaku serious or trolling?

Back to the mandate. So ok, this thing passes I am now forced to get health care. I still can't afford it so I go on Medicaid or some other government option. I suspect other low income people like myself do the same. Does this help keep the cost down?

Sorry, I was giving you the benefit of the doubt. I guess you're an idiot then.

Haha, my work isn't finished yet. But not everyone in my income bracket has that option. So if this pushes a bunch of people on the dole, does it work out in aggregate?

This CATO study of Massachusetts seems to indicate that the uninsured who got insurance seemed to take more out of the system than put in. Though I haven't looked at the study in depth. But it is a reasonable expectation.

So low income people like yourself are the only young, healthy people who aren't getting health insurance?

No, but do you have any numbers on how many people fall into each camp? Or are you just making assumptions like I am?

I was talking about repugs. Associating them with facts that are accurate is a loser's bet.

Let's be honest here, Tubbs. Obama's nemesis on this issue is the CBO, not the GOP.

We can quote some other people on this as well, Ozzy.

“One of the goals of health reform is to create broader-based risk pools,” said health care economist Linda Blumberg, a former advisor to President Bill Clinton who is now at the non-partisan Urban Institute in Washington. “The more healthy people that we can bring in, the lower will be the average cost in that risk pool.”

Paul Fronstin at the Employment Benefit Research Institute, a nonpartisan research group in Washington, said, “To some degree, requiring the (healthy) uninsured to have coverage is simply bringing them into the system to cross-subsidize the people that already have coverage.”

Bringing in the healthy uninsured will reduce the average cost of care, Fronstin said, “because you’ve brought in more people in paying, but not necessarily more people using health care.”

He added, “We’re assuming that this (uninsured) population is healthier on average than the general population. We know that because they are younger on average than the overall population.”

According to the Kaiser Commission, nearly one-third of the uninsured in 2007 were between ages 19 and 29 and another 42 percent were between ages 30 and 54.

An essential element of the Democrats' proposals is “guaranteed issue” — a requirement that insurers not turn away people who are sickly and have high medical costs.

“It’s a package deal,” Fronstin said. “You can’t have an individual mandate without guaranteed issue — and you can’t have guaranteed issue without an individual mandate. If we’re going to require insurance companies to sell people insurance independent of their health status, then everyone has to be in the system. Otherwise people are going to wait until they get sick to buy health care.”

Yes, it is based on assumptions (most economics is), but a sound one.
“I give you a new commandment, that you love one another. Just as I have loved you, you also should love one another. By this everyone will know that you are my disciples, if you have love for one another.”
