We'll just have to see what happens. There's plenty of time for Obama to screw up royally. There have been few negative weeks for Obama. And positive weeks normally are few and far between for presidents.

I don't think health care will be a positive experience for Obama, for one.
I came upon a barroom full of bad Salon pictures in which men with hats on the backs of their heads were wolfing food from a counter. It was the institution of the "free lunch" I had struck. You paid for a drink and got as much as you wanted to eat. For something less than a rupee a day a man can feed himself sumptuously in San Francisco, even though he be a bankrupt. Remember this if ever you are stranded in these parts. ~ Rudyard Kipling, 1891

In every other country universal care costs less than what you guys are spending now, so you'll pay for it, just not as much as you are paying now. All you have to do is see what is working in other countries and implement that, rather than come up with some corporate friendly abomination.

          True, 9/11 destroyed Bush's presidency.

As to Obama's renomination, only the Slowws and Dinos think he isn't doing well enough right now.

I don't think he's doing well enough now; the Obama Administration has been a fiscal disaster. I'm smart enough to see that all the decisions that have terrible long-term consequences for the country help Obama's political fortunes in the short-term, however. I've also noticed as Obama has slowly but surely co-opted as many potentially viable 2012 GOP Presidential candidates as he can. The man is a bad leader, but he's a great politician...

A year before the '92 election -- heck, a few months before -- I was telling people that there was no way in the world that GHW Bush could screw up his re-election. And that was pretty much the prevailing opinion at the time. But he found a way.

We're only a few months into the Obama era. Anything can happen.

                  I agree with you.

it's been over 100 years (maybe 150 - I forget who exactly it was) since a party didn't renominate their President when he wanted to run for a 2nd term.
Carter got pretty close in 1980. So it's possible.

Are you being serious? Obama is still early in his presidency and while he has had some missteps and made some embarrassing mistakes, he has also made some positive accomplishments. Except for Obama neglecting to talk about the horrible plight of gays and lesbians in Muslim countries, I was mostly satisfied with his trip to Egypt and Saudi Arabia.

Let's see what the rest of his presidency will be like before we decide too early or prematurely whether or not he will be a viable Democratic candidate for 2012 campaign.

Once again, a hot-headed Texan shoots stuff out of his mouth before thinking things through. But I still love ya.

                      Carter redux.

the GOP has left such a complete mess behind that the President only needs to seem like he's trying to be re-elected decisively, especially since the GOP has driven their own brand into the ground.
Yeah I love the double standard. A republican could end world suffering and he'd still be evil. I want a leader who does more then simply 'try' to do a good job.

What's next the carebear president where caring and sharing are all that matters?
