I love Wyoming in the summer. Parts of Idaho are also gorgeous, however, both states are VERY cold in the winter. Nothing temperate about either of them. If you are interested in freezing your butt off, you are welcome to live there, but for me, I am quite content to visit in summer, especially Wyoming. I am in love with the Tetons and I love rafting down the Snake River outside of Jackson Hole, but the entire state shuts down from October to April.

Idaho does have a more visible population of Mormons than other states, but that's not a negative trait. Mormons generally make good neighbors and are not really as weird as some people on this site make them out to be. Utah itself is a beautiful state, and really isn't "all" Mormon either.

I would personally choose to live in Northern California or Oregon, preferably on the coastline. The most gorgeous forests and ocean-views I have ever seen are on the upper North-West. The temperature is about perfect and they don't get very much snow.

I'd move to Seattle if I were you. Temperate weather, winters, red autumn leaves, all that suff. And lots of Chinese, so you won't feel out of place.

I am particular about weather, I prefer long summers, but I also prefer temperate climate, conifers, rivers melted from snow, etc. I'm thinking of a quiet town, or even a quiet city. Wondering how easy it would be for me (a 15yr graphic designer) to move to one of these places. Easy to get a job? I just want to live there for about 5 years tops.

From the Continental Divide of the Rockies to the tops of the Appalachians, the weather is pretty extreme. Cold winters [imported from Canada] and hot, baking summers [imported from Hell]. You're probably going to want something on either the Pacific or the Atlantic Coast.

And, for a job as a graphic designer, you'll probably want a large-to-midsize city. Right now, unemployment in California is over 10% and is expected to climb another percentage point before this recession is over. I wouldn't recommend coming here looking for a job --although "temperate climate, conifers, rivers melted from snow" sounds a lot like the northern coast of California, say the Santa Rosa to Eureka to Crescent City area. The "Moon of Endor" shots in Star Wars VI were shot just outside Crescent City.

Wyoming is, contrary to Drake's assertion, full of the nicest people in America. Sure, the can kick your ass, but they don't want to. They are just about the friendliest people I've ever met.

Texas is the only place with nicer people. I've been to Wyoming. The people there are so nice.

I'm sure the outer boroughs are worse. Idaho/Wyoming even more so.
