  • For the record, I think you should live in SAN DIEGO. They have awesome trolleys that are RED LIKE FIRETRUCKS. Also MICROBREWS.

    • I came upon a barroom full of bad Salon pictures in which men with hats on the backs of their heads were wolfing food from a counter. It was the institution of the "free lunch" I had struck. You paid for a drink and got as much as you wanted to eat. For something less than a rupee a day a man can feed himself sumptuously in San Francisco, even though he be a bankrupt. Remember this if ever you are stranded in these parts. ~ Rudyard Kipling, 1891

      • And I can safely say it'll be virtually impossible for Frosty to get an H1-B on the grounds of being a graphics designer, in this economy.

Get in line. It's a long one. What makes you so special that you should line-jump your average Philippina nurse or Indian code-jockey?

            • Codemonkey is also probably more accurate than code-jockey.

Yep, and run-of-the-mill graphic designers don't qualify for them. Sucks to be FrostyBoy.

Actually, Utah has one of the better economies when it comes to finding work. But those statistics might be more for the Northern-Central part of the state. There has never been very much in Southern Utah, so jobs have always been harder to find. St. George is the only "real" city down there, and it's not even that big.

You would have better luck finding work in the Salt Lake City area. Especially if you are in a technology field.

As for temperature, I find Utah to be pretty good compared to most other states. In the winter it averages 32 F and summer 90 F. Spring and Autumn are perfect. Plus, there is so much to do if you enjoy spending time outdoors. Gorgeous mountains lead to excellent skiing, lots of hiking, rock climbing, etc.

                    • My company used to sponsor quite a few candidates but have since stopped the practice due to the cost and extra hassels. (and the glut of cheap consulting companies) There is a lower emphasis on the "business knowledge" side and now they're just treated like a commodity. Which pisses me off since there is no business knowledge things take twice is long, always require reworks, so no real dollar savings happen, just ****ty work. But the bean counters just focus on the hourly rate oblivious to simple common sense and the Long view.

Interestingly, we have very few Indian cab drivers. At least here in DC.

Yup. Did you miss my snipe earlier when I asked Frosty why he was asking about skilled workers?

It also helps if you're Mormon; and I concur about nothing below the northern part of the state. Oh sure, if you're a rock hound like Oerdin you might find some club to join down there.
