I don't know why he saved my life. Maybe in those last moments he loved life more than he ever had before. Not just his life - anybody's life, my life. All he'd wanted were the same answers the rest of us want. Where did I come from? Where am I going? How long have I got? All I could do was sit there and watch him die.

There are plenty of Americans who want those jobs and can't get them.
I've noticed that americans often hold a grudge against Texas and are unwilling to relocate to get work. If they really want the jobs, there's nothing preventing them from chasing them down.Scouse Git (2) La Fayette Adam Smith Solomwi and Loinburger will not be forgotten.

You are, as usual, wrong.
1) Americans are probably the most mobile society on earth, and have routinely shown a willingness to relocate to find jobs, including to Texas. Ask Sloww if he remembers what "black plates" was slang for in the 80s.
2) Most adult Americans are homeowners. In a soft housing market, homeowners do not have the ability relocate easily. (In fact, in all economic times, a region's unemployment rate tends to correlate positively with its rate of home ownership.)
3) Texas's unemployment rate, while lower than the national average, is still coming up on 7%; Texas was also #3 in the country in jobs lost last month (after California and Florida). Relocating to a place with a 7% unemployment rate and an ongoing job hemorrhage is not exactly a smart move -- which is surely why the suggestion came from you."I have as much authority as the pope. I just don't have as many people who believe it." — George Carlin

First off, Texas was doing better then most parts of the country. SA alone is number 3 on the list of cities that have suffered the least from the downturn. Put the two together, that is an awesome package. Texas never saw the insane housing prices, they have a young, and growing population, as opposed to here, where it's getting much older.
For someone who wants to teach, Texas has far more opportunities then here.Scouse Git (2) La Fayette Adam Smith Solomwi and Loinburger will not be forgotten.

Let us get this thread back on track.
Can someone photoshop-merge these two pics?

Che, he was an illegal.

Wow! A 6.7% unemployment rate (higher than all its surrounding states, including Louisiana),
Secondly, where I am it's about 15 percent. 15 < 6.7 6.7 is actually incredibly low.
the third highest job-loss rate in the country,
and housing prices that haven't fallen in a market where getting a mortgage has become much, much more difficult? That package is made of awesome!Scouse Git (2) La Fayette Adam Smith Solomwi and Loinburger will not be forgotten.

I'd still like Che to explain what he meant by claiming that there was a "quota" on Canadians.

The only restriction on Canadian immigrants to the US I can think of is that we are not eligible for the diversity visa lottery because, along with other countries like the UK, there are too many immigrants from Canada to the US per year for us to qualify.
However, Canadian citizens ARE eligible for a special temporary non-immigrant visa under NAFTA (TN-1) for skilled workers which has no annual cap and which resembles the H1B in other respects (except for dual-purpose aspect of H1B)
As far as family-based and employment-based immigrant visas, there are no country-specific quotas AFAIK.12-17-10 Mohamed Bouazizi NEVER FORGET

Oh, and nice use of "<" there; I'm sure that's actually true in the Beniverse.
For this month? Texas is the second largest state. That means that Texas is losing jobs at a lower rate then the rest of the country.
Oh yeah. You've never been, have you? Housing prices that never got overpriced. They are still a bargain compared with other places even after the drop elsewhere."I have as much authority as the pope. I just don't have as many people who believe it." — George Carlin
