    Answer first please.

I thought that was a good way of saying "I don't know".

Oh, and I just took Kaplan's practice GMAT. Went through it fairly quickly (1/4 of allotted time for math, 1/3 for verbal) an I managed to crank out a 770 (perfect on math section, missed 3 questions on verbal, 2 of them on sentence correction).

99th percentile on both sections. I wonder which of the verbal ones I missed. I was a little bit iffy on a couple of the sentence corrections, but I thought I had the other type perfect.

        No ****

Just wanted to see what GMAT was about.

The verbal section tests basic English skills, I suppose. My guess is that Az (despite his fluency) is probably at a bit of a disadvantage relative to native English speakers.

The only interesting math questions were those which asked what info was necessary to solve problem.

I really should've studied for the math on the GRE. Hadn't taken a class in 7 years at that point, which drug down my score.

Any experience will be a plus. Grad schools are fairly tolerant places (at least in the sciences, probably in business-related stuff too). Nobody will give a damn that it was the IDF you were working for. They'll just care about what you did, what it taught you, whether you proved to be a good worker or a slacker.

I always heard that American undergrad schools look for people who not only have good grades, but who have done stuff that prove character traits - community service, volunteering etc. A friend told me that Israelis are viewed well in that light, especially for army service, especially if you were in command position.

I wondered if grad schools also care for this criteria.

Your post suggests that they care more about actual content, than my (and Az'es) junior officer rank.

                    To the next question:

What is more manly - beer drinking of whiskey drinking? And why?

                    • Whisk(e)y drinking. Obviously.

The two manliest nations in the world (Scotland and Ireland) invented it.

                      • Siro: top MBA schools generally require some work experience, 3+ years, with 5 being median. They don't want kids right out of undergrad. Part of the case work and the team work is to connect specific examples or general concepts to practical experience. They tend to be very eclectic in considering any work experience (teacher, priest, military officer, etc.) as relevant. Also, they like having diverse classes geographically and in experience. So IDF would be fine. I would not think it is anything super special. But it's fine and maybe moderately noteworthy. No more than that though.

                            • It's very common, but most of the people I know who do it says it ends up bad...

Well, depends on what you consider bad. I am pretty sure that the guy who got kicked out of the house with ~5 female roommates for having sex with half of them considered the overall experience to be good. I just mean bad if you want to continue living there with little drama.

My old roommate ended up paying 4 months of rent by himself because he did this to the girl who lived with him before me.

                                Not a good idea.
