    Indeed.

Placing giant posters of decapitated three year old girls in the middle of busy pathways on campus is directly comparable to a pride parade, which occurs on an area blocked off and with ample hints of what it is. You have to be a ****ing moron to witness a pride parade up close enough to see details if you are not interested.

Let's not even talk about how much more graphically disturbing the gay pride festivities are compared to the mild dismembered corpse of a toddler.

I've long thought that modern "musicians" are fighting a losing battle to make their lyrics more and more offensive, with diminishing returns. You can only swear or talk explicitly so much before the audience becomes desensitized, or the attempt at offensiveness becomes funny. See the Bloodhound Gang's "Put your head up high (and blow your brains out)." Well, no, that one's supposed to be funny, but you see what I mean.

And really, explicit is overrated. A little subtlety and imagination can make a song far more vulgar than a lot of F-bombs or graphic descriptions of penetrative acts. Think of Brown Sugar. That song is, what, thirty or forty years old now? And it's unbelievably crude, talking about kinky interracial sex in the antebellum south without ever resorting to profanity. The most vile song I personally ever heard was from the thirties or so, a little jazz/blues ditty called "Shave 'em dry" that lovingly compares a man's crab-infested genitals to the parts of a church. Plenty of swears, but they're plainly not put in just to offend; it's how the writer of the song is accustomed to talking. Modern vulgarity is a bland, manufactured phenomenon that's starting to wear itself out. Exhibit B: Marilyn Manson.

Ha! We reached the same conclusion simultaneously and separately!
Completely agreed that subtly and innuendo is the way to go. Songs that are too literal are boring -- I like complex lyrics with meanings that must be deciphered.

Well, to be fair to Ben, I didn't know I was walking into an area that the Pride Parade was going to the first time I encountered one. So it's kinda easy to get near one whether you're looking for one or not, at times.

Of course, I'll admit I wasn't repulsed at what I saw there, in comparison to some of the anti-abortion posters I've seen? Because really, what's so offensive about a muscular man wearing a rainbow-colored boa?

Quoting you word for word is lying?

                            • Ben has a couple of blind spots, buttons that when pushed cause a steady state reaction beyond the power of reason, logic, or sense. He is hardly the only person like that in the world. I suspect he means well.

Now as near as I understand, the show we've been discussing is regarded as a form of pornography, violent pornography or the pornography of violence. Now Ben, normally an upright man is advocating we let this pornography be shown in the name of Free Speech. Therefore, child pornography should be shown to protect the free speech of NAMBLA. M&S clubs should be allowed to show results to reassure potential members. I won't stretch this out like a shaggy dog story, but there are a whole series of organizations that advocate sexual and gender roles that could use graphic support to effectively recruit. What about them? Can I build a display of little dead amphibian-looking things that turn out to be first trimester fetuses; then show it near the other group?
