  • Just b/c they have their act together now doesn't mean it will happen. I don't know the ins and outs of parliamentary procedure but I am sure (by the Martin example) a confidence vote can be avoided for awhile. The Conservatives need this deal to fall apart (for whatever reason).

Then of course is the GG. I can't see her agreeing to prorogue but I'm not entirely convinced she won't call a new vote. I'll wait to see that.

    • I'm listening to the Three Amigo press conference. Layton just ***** slapped Harper. The quote will be good when it appears in print.

        • Oh dear, more bad news for Conservatives. They never did fill all those Senate vacancies. Dion just announced he intends to fill them. Harper really screwed this one up. Can he appoint a dozen plus Senators before being booted?

          • I'm waiting to hear I woke up in Cuba or something. This gong show is beyond embarrassing for our country.

Not only is a a power grab...it's a naked power grab. Not only is it a naked power grab, but so many people are blinded by their hatred of Harper or their support of the other parties to realize what a really bad ****ing precedent this is...not to mention how much damage this is doing to the economy.

Shame -- all around, but most especially to Dion, Layton, and Duceppe who have managed to take Harper's ****up and "capitalize" on it, thereby damaging their own parties significantly. I don't think they even realize how very little reason they have to do this, they've convinced themselves Harper is evil thereby they have all the reason to do it, so they are. In reality, what has happened? What's in the current bill before parliament that is going to **** up the country? The only thing they can point at is "he hasn't spent $30B to stimulate an economy that is not even in a recession".

Canada has never -- ever -- had an intelligent politician.

            • I imagine many conservatives are feeling gobsmacked right about now.

              • If Dion seizes power here, I will vow three things:
                - I will never, ever vote in Canada again
                - I will never, ever pay attention to Canadian politics at all
                - I'll make a genuine attempt move to silicon valley or the Redmond/Seattle area.

This has been a rude awakening to me just how ****ing childish the politicians are, how flawed our governmental system is, and how ****ing stupid Canadians tend to be in general. As ****ed up as the US democrat/republican system is, you'd never see this kind of bush league **** go down.

                • Why not be optimistic?

The coalition governs poorly for awhile (long enough for both main parties to select new leaders) then falls apart. The Conservatives romp in the next election b/c of public outrage at what has gone on.

We can both hope for that.

Because this kind of **** shouldn't happen, period. One month ago the Canadian voters watched to leader debates and then voted for the party they thought would best be fit to lead this country through the economic crisis. Then one month into the new government, the Liberals (feeling emasculated because they acted like little powerless *****es the past two years) felt like flexing their muscles to bring back the balls to the party by manipulating the system such that Canada didn't get the leader it elected to see us through the economic crisis, and instead we got easily the worst leadership candidate in my lifetime as a potential new Prime Minister whose plan seems to be "recklessly spend as much money as possible as quickly as possible, because I'm not sticking around as leader anyway!".

It's absolutely pathetic and the fact that this kind of **** is possible in my country is unacceptable. The chances of this system getting a massive overhaul in the near future is nil. There's really no point in caring about it, paying attention to it, or even living here if you can easily find the jobs you want in other areas of the world.

They elected George Bush -- twice! I wouldn't hold up the US as a model of anything

More generally I believe that a Dion led government will be a disaster but am very interested in how this all works out. Unlike Asher I don't see anything wrong with a number of parties attempting to create a coalition. IN other countries it is quite common for parties to team up that may or may not include the largest

Since we are unlikely to see good times for a while the coalition will be blamed for all the crap that happens, even if it is not really at fault. Then all three parties get to try to defend their collective record next election. With three masters to serve, it should make for an interesting government

                            They only elected him once.

                            • Do these assclowns even pretend to be internally consistent?

Earlier Monday, the three candidates running for the Liberal leadership emerged from a closed-door caucus meeting to endorse Mr. Dion as head of the proposed coalition government, which they said would pour billions of dollars into the economy.

                              ...

"I support the accord because it's fiscally responsible, it provides responsible economic leadership in tough times and it also conserves the basic principles of national unity, equality, that our party has always believed in," Mr. Ignatieff said.
                              This is a gem too:
Liberal MP Martha Hall Findlay said that even if the Conservatives put forward an economic-stimulus package now, it would have no credibility and the opposition would reject it.
I thought the issue was we needed an economic stimulus. If they provide one now that does what you say you want, how does it "have no credibility" if you assclowns pass it?

****, these are worse than student governments.
