As far as Ontario being overrepresented by government interest, consider what I read in another commentary recently - if you added up the populations of the 8 provinces and 3 territories as of 2008 aside from Ontario and Quebec - their combined population is 12.6 million people. Ontario's population alone is 12.9 million. How else do you think that Chretien managed majorities despite the strength of the Reform in the West? By winning Ontario massively.

It's disturbing you had to read that for you to think about it. It should be obvious.

But this is precisely why the West feels alienated. The political leanings are significantly different and the population of central Canada is too massive to compete with.

Remind me why we're one big country again? It needs to be a balance if you want to keep everyone happy. Keep throwing Alberta's money at failing auto makers in Ontario if you want to see how long they'll put up with it...

I have no problem with serious or even heated debate but it crosses the line when profanities are used against other posters. The playground was many years ago.

If a poster has a problem with something I have said all they need do is address it. I will respond and if I was wrong I will say so. I've admitted mistakes in the past and will do so again. I will not offer myself up to be sworn at however. I have better things and people to worry about.

I was going to respond to your posts a few back about AB being pissed at the moment.

This is why I said earlier I think Canada is a failed experiment. Unavoidable regionalism will be the death of us (among other problems).

Yep. Me too. Harper is the problem in Ottawa these days.

He's done two things which make me dislike him:

1) shat all over the best policy idea for reducing greenhouse gas emissions (assuming this is something we actually want to do) while promoting his own terrible policy idea

2) reducing the GST (rather than reducing income taxes, which tend to be worse taxes).

Other than that, I'm fairly pleased with him. Especially on foreign policy (when compared to the other 3 parties). I also don't want to see the Liberals and NDP start handing money over to the automakers

I deliberately refrained from my usual style of information coupled with insult because I wanted to see what NYE would do. And sure enough, he resorted to name-calling fairly quickly. Though admittedly I returned the favour once he cracked the seal.

He's been more crotchety since I got back.
