  • And can somebody explain to me the logic in giving billions of dollars to the Big Three as part of this bill?

    Holy **** this is epic.

You didn't get it. That's fine, you probably voted Liberal too.

      • Err I did get it ...

Who I voted for doesn't matter really - it's none of your business actually.

              Damn straight you do!

Harper did defeat Dion to become PM (however brief).

I think Charles Tupper (another Conservative) holds the all time record at 69 days. Harper should be short of that unless he puts the vote off somehow.

              • Harper will try to stall as much as possible, possibly until January - maybe even until January 27th, 2009. It isn't impossible that he manages to survive this situation, however unlikely that is.

I agree. I seem to remember Martin squirming on the hook for quite some time.

ya -- I seem to recall you even contemplated this in the original wager-- Wasn't it first PM wins?

AS Asher pointed out-- you obviously didn't get the point of his comment-- we all knew which Bush I meant but he was making a not so veiled reference to voting irregularities and perhaps downright fraud in Florida in Bush's firs "win"

                          Got it now??

                          • We didn't contemplate the possibility but by a strict reading of the wager, yes, that was the bet.

Btw Flubber, this is a fine example of the Harper leadership style I have been critical of the last couple years. Waging war on everyone has finally come back to bite him.

                            • The only good thing out of all this stuff is that at least its somewhat interesting-- Majority governments are often uninteresting but this stuff is almost fun to watch. I would enjoy this except for the real fear that Dion will be a clusterf*** of a leader and will muck things up more than the Conservatives ever would.

I'm sorry but the mastermind of the Green Shift has zero credibility with me. I am also confused on the Libs message. They slammed Harper for even the possibility of a deficet but yet they seem to want to topple him throw barrells and barrells of money around, inevitably putting us in deficet

But even if he played nice, ideology is against him. The largest opposition party is between the Cons and both of the other opposition parties on the ideological spectrum. It is therefore tough to see the Conservatives getting long-term agreement with either the NDP or Bloc when the philosophical divide is so great.

My biggest surprise actually was that Martin didn't try this in the aftermath two elections ago or Dion as an alternative to going into the last election
