Those things I have some (perhaps hostile) interest in, but there's a lot of stuff in the Philosophy of Mind that other people like more than I do. Rorty's Philosophy and the Mirror of Nature is also very interesting and influential.
    Is this a joke?

Because you're just proving JM's point about nothing coming out of Philosophy in the past 40 years.

    • For those of you who, like me, consider inferentialism as a key part of modern society (moreso than any philosophical achievement of the past 30 centuries combined!!!!), here's what he refers to:
Inferential role semantics (also: conceptual role semantics, functional role semantics, procedural semantics) is an approach to the theory of meaning heavily influenced by Ludwig Wittgenstein's later philosophy in that it identifies meaning with use. Some versions focus on the representation's role in the mind of the agent while others acknowledge external factors. Proponents include Robert Brandom, Gilbert Harman, Paul Horwich, and Ned Block.

Inferential role semantics can be seen as opposed to truth-conditional semantics. Jerry Fodor coined the term "inferential role semantics" in order to attack it as a holistic (i.e. essentially non-compositional) approach to the theory of meaning.

The approach is related to accounts of proof-theoretic semantics in the semantics of logic which associate meaning with the reasoning process.

Clearly, this is the best thing ever. If there's one thing historians will remember of the past 40 years, it's this.

Here's the intellectual who saved us from doom with this discovery:
"The issue is there are still many people out there that use religion as a crutch for bigotry and hate. Like Ben."
Ben Kenobi: "That means I'm doing something right. "

There's probably something to that. Also, I don't know with much certaintly how you would answer some of the questions.

I took the test, pretending to be a typical right wing Christian poster here, and I recieved a score of..

        Economic Left/Right: 8.88
        Social Libertarian/Authoritarian: 4.87

Some of the easy questions to answer were those that the Bible says something about, or that Christians believe. Also, some questions were obviously easy to answer as a right winger.

Next I took the test trying to answer as the most authoritarian person that I could imagine actually living today in the US. My score...

        Economic Left/Right: 8.75
        Social Libertarian/Authoritarian: 7.64

That's actually slightly lower in the economic sphere than you. Also, it's not that close to 10's. So I think that the questions make a person seem more left than they actually are.

        • Wow.

NGR, you and I have almost the same scores.

I think it's hilarious that the 'right wing' on Poly is all scoring +1-5 econ and all of them are minuses wrt to authoritarianism.

It seems we are all just libertarians of one stripe or another.

A libertarian who supports banning gay marriage is no libertarian.

Lower? Both my numbers were negative.

I question what great ideas have come about in the last 40 years?

Simple answer: contemporary philosophers only get studied by specialists. They eventually make their way to the public, but it's longer.

There's also a problem with some of the test takers.

I could beleive that is true. But if true it is a serious problem.

                              • Anyone who wants other people to wipe their ass should clearly be in possitive territory in regards to the test.
