There already were millions of homeless in the US. The question is will there be millions more.

If not, I wonder how the Obama administration plans to fix it.
I don't think he will say. Maybe he doesn't know yet. FDR simply said he would give Americans a New Deal, but didn't give any specifics when he was campaigning for president.

How is this the least bit comparable? The newest iteration of McCain's campaign is about calling his opponent a terrorist sympathizer. It's absolutely disgusting, and should have no place in American politics.

No, it's about calling Obama a friend of terrorists, which is true. If you don't want it to have a place in American politics, don't nominate candidates who are, in fact, friends with terrorists.

              April 27, 2008
WASHINGTON -- After an unsuccessful campaign for Congress in 2000, Illinois state Sen. Barack Obama faced serious financial pressure: numerous debts, limited cash and a law practice he had neglected for a year. Help arrived in early 2001 from a significant new legal client -- a longtime political supporter.

Chicago entrepreneur Robert Blackwell Jr. paid Obama an $8,000-a-month retainer to give legal advice to his growing technology firm, Electronic Knowledge Interchange. It allowed Obama to supplement his $58,000 part-time state Senate salary for over a year with regular payments from Blackwell's firm that eventually totaled $112,000.

              .....
Am I missing something? I read the whole article, and what it amounts to is Obama writing a letter recommending Blackwell's company for a grant. Obama didn't have any control over the actual selection of who got the grant. The ethicists in the article even state that Obama certainly did nothing illegal and complied with ethics rules.

              So what?

I mean, it's not as if Obama took ritzy vacations at the guy's expense and then actively supported legislation in congress that benifitted him or things like that...

Yeah, McCain should definitely be disqualified for his (much more important) friendships with Kissinger and North.

Not responding to an opponent smearing you is a good way to lose, even if one is winning. See Dukakis.

If Obama didn't respond, people would be calling him a wimp.

But the thing about this situation is that he didn't start it, and the media narrative is that he didn't start it. The media swooped in on Palin's revolting comments, and the public knows full well who opened the can of worms. So Obama let McCain fire the first salvo, but had a stockpile of ammunition ready for a blistering response. The old codger has essentially walked into a trap. Im out of metaphors for the time being...

Obama met Ayers long after his violent activties were over, and obviously long after any punishment Ayers was given had elapsed. To claim Obama was friends with terrorist is completly idiotic. I could just as easily claim that any Republican who was friendly with Yitzak Shamir was a friend with terrorist, given that Shamir authorized terrorist acts. That would certainly make Ronnie Reagan a friend of terrorists.

Reagan illegally funded terrorists (Contras). He also sold Saddam Hussein weapons. No need to go to a relatively obscure fellow like Shamir.

This is why the Ayers attacks are stupid and won't get any traction--it's been abundantly shown that Obama had no connection whatsoever with Ayers' activities. They worked together on education reform. OOOOOOOOOOOH. And the program that was implemented has been nationally recognized as a terrific model that produced good results. OOOOOOOH!

So Obama helped kids. McCain took bribes.

Which is why the democrats are smearing McCain because he is of the same generation as Ayers?

                          I don't get their campaign.

And I certainly don't trust the recent polls that show a supposed Obamaslide.

It's easy to fix a poll to come out however you want.

Come on, I agree that this line of attack against Obama is idiotic, but to think it has no impact is wrong. Two seconds online shows anyone how generally idiotic American politics has become and the kind of buffons out there.

At the least, this kind of stupid argument sucks energy from talking about policy issues - something that however minutely helps McCain, since the issues is something his campaign would rather be avoiding right now.

Right Ben, every single polling organization has decided to fix the polls

Also, breaking fifty percent isn't a 'landslide' in any sense of the word.
