In an interview Thursday, Palin said she meant only to say that discussion of alternative views should be allowed to arise in Alaska classrooms:
“I don’t think there should be a prohibition against debate if it comes up in class. It doesn’t have to be part of the curriculum.”
She added that, if elected, she would not push the state Board of Education to add such creation-based alternatives to the state’s required curriculum.
Members of the state school board, which sets minimum requirements, are appointed by the governor and confirmed by the Legislature.

When she says "teach both," it's not particularly open to clarification. Sounds like she backtracked her way from crazyville after her aides figured that might've been a liability.

As you mentioned it's a stupid question to begin with. One can easily believe in both evolution and creationism at the same time, depending on whether the word "evolution" is meant as an actual origin or merely as a method/tool/instrument/whathaveyou. Obviously if McCain is a Christian and also believes in evolution, then he must believe in a theistically "guided" evolution, which is the case for a vast majority of Christians and doesn't even contradict a slightly metaphorical reading of Genesis.Originally posted by MarkG
