"Roughly as unqualified"?Originally posted by Elok
To get this thread back on topic, maybe we should reserve further judgment on Palin until we've heard her speak on national issues? I think that's what I'm going to do. Her bio in today's WaPo gave the impression of a cute, perky pit bull. No telling whether she's a good person for the job at this point, but she seems roughly as unqualified as Obama and at least as forceful in personality.
She's a small time politician. 5,000-person town mayor and then governor of a state for only two years that any idiot could govern due to their resources and federal funding. She was also a sportscaster and fisherman.
You compare that to Obama's history both as a senator in a real state in addition to what he did before (teach law, etc) then it's hard to say that they're the same in terms of qualifications.
Palin is a PTA-mom that was in the right place at the right time, period..."The issue is there are still many people out there that use religion as a crutch for bigotry and hate. Like Ben."

Well she can wiki the answer to that question. Sit and watch Senate proceedings and... well that's about it unless A) a tiebreaking vote is needed or B) the boss kicks the bucket. I hate to defend her, but if anything I'd say being the chief executive of any state is more complex than being VP. It's not like the President "shares" some day-to-day work with the VP like he does with the cabinet, or as if the VP takes on Presidential duties while he's sleeping. Maybe in the present Cheney Administration, but not generally. It's not like the President/Prime Minister relationship in other countries.Originally posted by MarkG

Seriously, does anyone here really believe that Dan Quayle had any major responsibilities in 89-93?Last edited by Darius871; August 30, 2008, 19:35.

She asks "What's a VP do?"
And she's not joking."The issue is there are still many people out there that use religion as a crutch for bigotry and hate. Like Ben."

You made a good point right there - it's a TV show. If you can show me instances where Dan Quayle made truly important decisions while VP, I'll eat my hat.
Ultimately it'll be the same story for Palin, just sit and do nothing in the Senate, break a tie here and there along predictable party lines, and be a pretty face for some social functions here and there. We'd only be ****ed if McCain up and dies, which isn't a given.

I don't, because VP is a meaningless figurehead slot involving no more skills than journalists have.Originally posted by Kidicious
Does anyone else have trouble picturing her as a VP? She sounds like a journalist.
Cheney is just the exception that proves the rule folks, believe me.
