Btw, I think it was Slidell that was basically leveled by the wind of Katrina.

I came upon a barroom full of bad Salon pictures in which men with hats on the backs of their heads were wolfing food from a counter. It was the institution of the "free lunch" I had struck. You paid for a drink and got as much as you wanted to eat. For something less than a rupee a day a man can feed himself sumptuously in San Francisco, even though he be a bankrupt. Remember this if ever you are stranded in these parts. ~ Rudyard Kipling, 1891

Don't they get tired of living there?

The mental and emotional toll of Katrina was pretty devastating for everybody, especially the older folks. My sister's in-laws lost generations of family pictures, as just one example. It's my sense that Katrina killed many more people by demoralizing them than by wind or flood.
But these hurricanes happen so infrequently...I came upon a barroom full of bad Salon pictures in which men with hats on the backs of their heads were wolfing food from a counter. A front from the outer bands of the hurricane pass over a field of sugar cane and a boarded up home on US 90 near Franklin, Louisiana.Life is not measured by the number of breaths you take, but by the moments that take your breath away.

I hope the damage and casualties will be minimal. Well, duh. But it's on my mind a lot right now, as is the case with most people over here, I think. People talked a lot about this at work, all showing genuine concern. Quite rare for something so distant to occupy people's minds to this extent.
A lot of thoughts and good wishes go out right now to those who are affected - even from ordinary people thousands of miles away..

Well, the storm has died down some. Looks like NOLA dodged the bullet.Christianity: The belief that a cosmic Jewish Zombie who was his own father can make you live forever if you symbolically eat his flesh and telepathically tell him you accept him as your master, so he can remove an evil force from your soul that is present in humanity because a rib-woman was convinced by a talking snake to eat from a magical tree...

Hopefully our friends in the Gulf are ok (isn't DD from MS?).
And I hope Hanna stays tropical storm.... and pelts the Atlanta area with water.“I give you a new commandment, that you love one another. Just as I have loved you, you also should love one another. By this everyone will know that you are my disciples, if you have love for one another.”

Well, looks like Gustav wasn't a huge storm.
