The leader of South Ossetia's separatist government, Eduard Kokoity, said he would ask Moscow to set up a military base on his territory.

Russia setting up a permanent military base inside the internationally recognized boarders of Georgia against the wishes of the Georgian government.

    WTF are those idiots thinking?

Thats why everyone thinks the Ukraine will be next unless we stop Russia in Georgia. Same thing the Germans did with the Sudeten in WW2. Get the local German population to claim oppression, and invade. If I was in a country next door to Russia and my country had a Russian population of any size, I'd be more than just a little bit nervous.

Like your statement onodera, that a whole region of the Ukraine should rightfully belong to Russia just because you invaded it during Catherine the Great's time and there's alot of Russians living there... I know what you mean, rabble to be roused to give Putin an excuse to send in the tanks. Oh yeah, know the drill, and the US isn't going to let it happen.

Lancer, we took Crimea from the Turks back when there was no Ukrainian national identity. I should probably write a post about Ukraine.

The Ukraine was part of Poland - Lithuania for over 400 years. Before that it was "governed" by the Mongols, and before that it was Russia, when Muscovy was just barren forest. Before that it was the land of the Alans, the descendents of the Sarmatians, who were the descendents of the Scythians. The Ossetians are the descendents of the Alans.

Hey! I know how to resolve the crisis in Georgia - give the Ukraine back to the South Ossetians!

I came to that same conclusion while browsing the wiki article on the Ukraine... if the Dr. and I agree, it must be done

Perhaps the Ukraine could protect itself by resuming the name "Russia", the Russians will assume they've won and go home. Then the new Ukrainian Russia will sue Russia for infringing upon its name. When Russia changes its name to Novgorod the Ukrainian Russia will ask for the former Russian territories back.

With or without religion, you would have good people doing good things and evil people doing evil things. But for good people to do evil things, that takes religion.
