A gossip, an information leakage from Kremlin or as our Lithuanian friend of Georgian GRAD operators loves to say - "a message" to Europe.
French foreign minister said yesterday they will discuss sanctions vs. Russia on their emeregency summit at Sept. 1. Today appeared gossips that we can turn off the valve if they really take sanctions against us. Nothing really serious just a little oral showdowns - you threaten us, we threaten you.

No military is constantly ready for action 100%. Stop being childish.

Yep. For me it was very clear from the beggining. Intensive reamring of Georgian military combined with constant sable rantings (wrt SO) of your paranoid fascist Georgian friend, it was pretty clear that sooner or later he will create some kind of excuse to start another conquest of South Ossetia and Abkhazia.

Everyone who wants to stay free would arm to the teeth if an aggressive and even more treacherous superpower
was next door, supplying criminals / separatists and protecting them with their peace keepers. Russia had all the cards to solve the SO and Abkhazian issue, they just never wanted to, because then Georgia would be able to join NATO, and NOOO WE CAN'T ALLOW THEM TO SURROUND US NOOO!!11!!

What is clear for you? That the full-scale Georgian offensive, the night attack on Tskhinvali and Ossetian villages, bombings of Russian peacekeepers's positions in Tskhinvali NEVER HAPPENED?
HOW THE **** CAN YOU JUSTIFY THAT?
They happened, and I like how you gradually start accepting the reality of there being no deliberate attacks on civilian targets. Why they happened is another story, one of endless provocations.

Can anyone with knowledge of the oil industry explain where Russia will put all that oil unsold to Europe? My guess is that they either sell it to someone else, hence no effect (Europe will buy from previous sellers to the new Russian clients) or they close wells, which is imho expensive.

China and India can swallow all the oil Russia can throw at them and more...

I think that between Russia and EU having problems with oil and gas, EU has a much tougher situation on their hands, as well that will mean to go to middle east and buy from them with more expensive transportation etc... while China/India/Asia etc get the best deal out of the situation... Russia's revenues would perhaps fall slightly if they need to sell for a bit less, or build new infrastructure to support the oil flow, but IMHO they should not have major problems with delivery especially comparing to us who have to buy to replace...

If we'll cut-off the supply to Europe, the oil and gas prices will skyrocket. So we won't lose that much, aside Euros, Americans or other comsumers.
                        They know that.

If you sell it to someone else, it won't skyrocket. You have to hold it for prices to rise.

                          • We can't immediately sell anywhere else everything what we are selling to Europe now. It takes time to redirect our energy routes from Europe to Asia (but we are already doing that), so the prices will skyrocket.
Currently about 1/3 of EU's oil and gas comes from Russia. Actually we don't need to completely stop the delivery to skyrocket price, just reduce it (then we'll actually recover some money (due to higher prices) we lose because of lesser sales). Anyhow, for EU Russian gas and oil is the cheapest. If they refuse the Russian source, the gas and oil will cost them more than now (no matter where they'll get the substitute). And that requires times too, of course. So neither side is really interested in that, but EU will lose more, imho.

Where'd you get the other figures from? The source I posted mentioned 4000 troops, the warships being well equipped to make the speed run, and the logistics ships being the slowest part of the fleet, as confirmed by Serb's post.

The 3000 came from PLATO, but if you want me to use 4000 that is an even longer onload.

I already stated were the rest came from. But hell, Serb doesn't care about speed over ground, so why even bother?
