Russia recognized separatist regions of South Ossetia and Abkhazia as independent, President Dmitry Medvedev said Tuesday, a move Washington says would be unacceptable.

Medvedev, defying U.S. pressure, said he had signed a decree recognizing Georgia's two rebel regions of South Ossetia and Abkhazia as independent states.

I wonder how long it took for USS Mc Faul to reach Batumi? Wouldn't stores have to be taken on, crews recalled, a "humanitarian" cargo loaded, etc?
Or your "humanitarian aid" was already on its way to Georgia when Sukashvili ordered to erase Tskhinvali from the face of Earth?
1.) The McFaul is already on deployment, since May, thus no weapons/stores onload or crew recall.

2.) There are humanitarian supplies on standby at the NWS Souda Bay, Crete so all they had to do was pull in and conveyer them up, a few hours to pull in and do so max.

3.) They arrived at Batumi on the 24th, they onloaded at Crete on the 20th. You do the math.

4.) How absolultey ridiculous does Russia look keeping baby food and diapers away from a civilian populous it is illegally occupying?

Honestly Serb, are you done looking like an idiot yet?

The United States' embargo of Cuba will be 50 years old in 2 more years. This embargo is total, it includes food, medicine, everything. For the first 10 years the United States was successful in coercing its European allies to honor the embargo. Thus, throughout the 1960s Cuban children died needlessly of simple infections which could have been cured by western antibiotics, until finally the politicians of Europe saw the senselessness of the embargo and broke ranks with the US. I might also point out that the Gaza strip has been under embargo for a couple of years.

I don't think we ever established that the Russian fleet arrived off the coast of Georgia with its support ships arriving at the same time. How long would it have taken for the war vessels to get there from Sevastopol?

Should I comment on how irrelevant this is?

It doesn't matter if their support ships arrived at the same time. In order for the warships themselves to have gotten there when they did they would have needed prior warning.

400nm at <25 knots plus port transit times/crew recall/fueling/troop onloads = Russians engineered this weeks ahead of time.

It is almost senseless how people will try to keeping reaching further and further from reality to try to make the US look bad. The mere distance that the libs are having to go to try to do it must clearly show how the US is in the right here. How can anyone gripe about humanitarian aid to a war zone? Simply unbelievable.

Humanitarian aid is good. We should've provided it themselves.
But why humanitarian aid on a military ship? Don't you have anything like EMERCOM?

It's pretty normal praxis to use military for humanitarian aid, done by various countries in different situations/regions.

We put humanitarian aid on military ships when we want to. If we don't want to however we don't. What Russia thinks of that who cares.

The McFaul already had Turkish permission to enter the Black Sea. Nothing more complicated than that.

Two Romanians were talking about the new trade deal between the Soviet Union.

I meant EMERCOM. Corrected the post.
