Thanks, that is the point that needs to come through here.

There is an inherent discrimination in the phrases such as "Violence Against Women", or "Hate Crimes". Violence is wrong, regardless of gender/race/religion/creed/...

Biasing the system in favour of the currently oppressed group only leads to further injustice perpetrated by government and law. Decide on what rights a human being in your country is entitled to, and then make sure that those rights are enforced.

No one has said that violence against men (by women) is a problem deserving equal funding with the women's support. They simply want the problem recognized and addressed appropriately.

Oppression against any group, regardless of their "dominance" is wrong. That is a liberal idea - everyone is morally equal. You cannot hold the moral high ground if your response to oppression is to turn around and use oppression against the dominant group.

I don't disagree that it's a liberal idea. I'm saying that that doesn't necessarily make you a liberal, or at least a very honest one. If you are only concerned with yourself then you aren't much different from conservatives. In fact, you might as well be one as far as I'm concerned.

I really don't agree with that catagorization of this site. Sure, we have people like aneeshm, but most on this site are very liberal when it comes to gender (especially when compared with western society at large). Do we have some jokes based on gender? Sure... but that happens when a bunch of folks of one gender (EITHER gender, btw) get together.

I don't think aneeshm should be the standard. Most sexism is very subtle. Aneeshm comes from a different culture.

It's a matter of how much concern you have. If you aren't equally concerned with everyone then you are a bigot. Why start a thread opposed to violence towards men when violence toward women is a much bigger problem. Hell, there are worthy men's rights issues, but the OP doesn't address any of those, now does it. This is what I call subtle sexism.
