I guess Carter and Obama have similarities, but Carter was really not a big change agent, and was more of what I would call a populist. Obama is trying to be a messianic, inspirational leader. Which is, of course, doomed to failure in the media cynical world of 2008.

In my darker moments, I think that the Republicans are behind his campaign, in a bid to keep the Clintons from returning to the WH.

      • Oh, and Bush won't be blamed for 9/11 any more than FDR is for Pearl Harbor.

No, they will only call the execution of the war during the first few years a complete fiasco, utterly incompetent, corrupt, and a sign of a bad administration.

Doubt any of that will improve the general view of the Bush admin. The best historical view for Bush I can see is of a close minded administration that sought to increase the power of the Presidency while screwing up various crises and issues due to a closed set of ideologues with no real clue about the world.

Yep. It'll be more of a thank God the McCain/Obama/Clinton Administration cleaned up the mess of the Bush Administration. Good idea, but the Bush Administration totally messed up going about it (in the best picture for the Bush Administration).

                  • As long as we're playing the worst Presidents game:

                    1. Stillpresident Bush
                    2. Buchanan
                    3. Harding
                    4. Hayes
                    5. Reagan

                    • Doesn't it empower you to say the current president is the worst ever? Psychologically, it must be a great ego trip for you, to say you are living in the period of the worst presidency ever...it gives you more relevance, and it is such an easy hyperbole to say, HEY THIS IS THE WORST PRESIDENT EVAR, despite the fact you are probably a biology major who knows less about the history of the presidency than about the rectum of a female meerkat. Take your inflated sense of self importance of shove it, no one wants to listen to you anymore

                      • It's pretty sweet. Stillpresident Bush has been so spectacularly terrible, we might actually see a realigning election.

                        • Economy: largely out of the President's hands. Not totally, but mostly.

9/11: Nearly everyone was asleep at the switch. Some blame to the Clinton Admin, some to Bush, much to bureacrats in the FBI that could have served under any administration.

Bush the Younger: his legacy will be that of an incompetent ideogogue. Of course there will be some who will see it differently. To them, he will remain a brave crusader, wrongly maligned by the liberal press and other backstabbing weenies.

                          • These lists are terrible.

                            1. Buchanan
                            2. Pierce
                            3. Fillmore
                            4. Carter
                            5. Hayes

I exclude assassinated presidents and those who won more then 1 term. If you won 2 terms, chances are there was a good reason for doing so.

That the other party ran an even worse candidate? That the election was rigged? What a stupid way to ensure that one of the worst presidents is excluded from that list.
