I think Romney had already done that when he was running for Governor of Massachusetts. He had to set his liberal constituency at ease, or at least that's probably what he thought, so although he was personally conservative, he chose to espouse a liberal ideology.

For Romney, the real flip-flop wasn't going from liberal to conservative, it was going from conservative to liberal in the first place.

I don't know or care what his deepest beliefs are, but the point stands.

          quote:
"If I fight on in my campaign, all the way to the convention, I would forestall the launch of a national campaign and make it more likely that Sens. Clinton or [Barack] Obama would win. And in this time of war, I simply cannot let my campaign, be a part of aiding a surrender to terror," Mr. Romney planned to say in a speech to the Conservative Political Action Conference.
I have been pondering whether Obama might reach across party lines to appoint Romney as Secretary of Commerce. ...But, I'm sure the Governor wouldn't want to be part of an administration which runs on a "Let's Surrender to Terrorists" platform.

Mitt's way too conservative on the economy anyway. He'd loudly disagree with letting the Bush tax cuts expire for one.

I'm strugling to understand your political jusgement here. Why would a person who campaigned as an economic conservative take an economic position in an economic liberal's admin?

                    Good to see him gone.

                    Goodbye Mitt.

                    Now, one more left. McCain.

Ben, if you're hoping Huck-a-bee might win, I've got some land in florida you might be interested in...

Huck has 0% chance of winning the general election (to 8 significant places) and 0.01% chance of winning the republican primary. That 0.01% is if McCain has a heart attack, and Romney still chooses not to re-start his campaign.
